Hill Has Impressive Showings As Men’s Track & Field Wins 5 Events At SFA 14 Apr 2025, 7:59 pm
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The TSU men’s track team had a strong weekend at the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational with five first-place finishes.
Isaac Henderson won the 100 after running a personal-best 10.42 which ranks eighth in the SWAC. Kaseem Ibraheem-Washington placed second in the 400 (47.89) while Brandon Adolphus finished sixth in the 800. Donyea Jarmon placed first and moved to third in the SWAC in the 110-meter hurdles after a personal-best run of 14.02 while the 4×100-meter relay tandem of Chaunzavia Lewis, Henderson, Christian Jones and William Perry placed second after running a time of 40.65.
Adam Hines’ jump of 15-5 feet in the pole vault was good for fourth and the SWAC’s top mark. Hilton Smith placed third in the long jump after a mark of 22-10 while Ahmad Muhammad placed fourth (46-11) in the triple jump.

Women’s Track Wins 4 Titles At Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational 14 Apr 2025, 7:59 pm
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – TSU women’s track & field had four first-place performances at the Carl Knight Lumberjack Invitational.
The team performed well in the sprints as Cesley Williams won the 200 after running a personal-best 24.45 as she ranks sixth in the SWAC. Tyeler Moore and Bayli George finished 3-4 after running 24.87 and 24.96, respectively. Car’De Moore (11.84), Erica Grant (12.02) and Avia Trammell (12.16) placed 3-4-6 in the 100 while Alyvia Brown ran a personal and SWAC-best 17:43.02 in the 5,000.
Lyriq Ray won the 100-meter hurdles (15.34) while Desirae Roberts won the 400-meter hurdles as she ranks second In the SWAC (1:02.27). The 4×100-meter relay of Moore, Grant, George and Williams had a blazing weekend after running the SWAC’s top mark of 45.58 en route to a second-place finish.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Texas Southern softball had a tough weekend as Southern claimed two-of-three games.
SOUTHERN 6, TSU 5 (9)
TSU battled back from a four-run deficit late but surrendered two late runs as SU claimed a 5-4 win in extra innings.
A fielding error allowed three runs to score in the second followed by a single for an early 4-0 Jaguar lead. TSU would chip away from that point as Karisma Garcia drove in a run in the third and the defense kept SU off the board.

Houston, Texas – Texas Southern fell to UAPB Golden Lions 11-8 on Saturday, despite collecting 12 hits to UAPB’s 11. Jonathan Trejo led Texas Southern with three hits.
UAPB Golden Lions took an early lead in the second inning, scoring six runs due to errors and timely hits from Trinidad DeLaGarza and Gavin Terry. Texas Southern responded in the fourth inning with a solo home run by Damian Garcia and a walk by Elijah Rodriguez, making the score 8-2.

The Texas Southern softball and track & field teams hit the road this weekend while baseball returns home for a weekend series at MacGregor Park starting Friday in addition to the annual spring football game on Saturday.

The TSU softball team returns to Louisiana for the second straight weekend as they’ll face Southern University Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge. This series holds significant importance for both teams as only one game separates them in the SWAC standings as TSU is two games back of first place in second. The series starts at 4:30 p.m. Friday and concludes with a 12 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Women’s Golf Conclude Efforts at “Mo” Morial Invitational 9 Apr 2025, 6:22 pm
Bryan-College Station, Texas – The Texas Southern Women’s Golf team finished in 16th place in at the “Mo” Morial Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Tuesday.
Graduate student, Alexa Gonzales was the top scorer for the Tigers with a three-round total of 258. Junior, Azul Amezcua was six strokes back on 264.
The “Mo” Morial Invitational took place at Traditions Club. The tournament format consisted of 54 holes played over two days. The Tigers conclude their regular season at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship on April 14-16 in Birmingham, Ala. at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxmoor Valley

Jalen Walker threw a career-high in the hammer as TSU men’s track & field participated in the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational.
Walker threw a career and SWAC-best mark of 189-10 feet as he placed fifth overall. He would also finish eighth (149-7) in the discus. Jaden Brooks moved to second in the SWAC after throwing 152-9 in the discus while Swazi Gurnell placed ninth (131-2). Blaine Nunn posted a career-best in the hammer (166-6) and threw 48-4.5 in the shot put as he placed eighth in both events. Trevon Hill threw 51-11 in the shot put as he finished sixth.
