Speed Solar Inc was started by partners Cal Couillard, Al Waller, and Amer Arafat in Deerfield Wisconsin, a small village of just over 3500 people, located just south of Madison, the state’s capital. Our goal is to expand the installation of solar energy systems throughout the country by providing quick access to high quality solar panels at competitive prices. We’ve focused our efforts on bifacial solar panels (also called solar modules) because they represent the most efficient solar products available today and we believe they are the future of solar.

We are, literally, people saving and borrowing together to improve our standard of living. As a cooperative, every member is an equal owner with an equal vote. Our Directors are elected by our members at the annual meeting and serve as volunteers without compensation. They establish policies and oversee the operation of the credit union.

It is there that Jim Birkemeier developed and refined his approach to forestry, built his solar kilns and his own log home, started his businesses, and continues to write books, teach, operate his Wood-Mizer, manage the forest, pick morels, and more.
