Greenhouse & Garden Cafe

A Note From The Owner: Trying Something New 21 Mar 2025, 6:56 pm

Since the beginning of the Garden Cafe in 2019, we started small with NYS craft beverages, small plates, and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings. That was the original intention.  I was shocked when someone referred to it as a restaurant, it was meant to be a simple place where you could come to breathe, and enjoy real, local food in a great atmosphere.

People wanted more, so we added pizzas.

People wanted more, so we added weekday lunches.

The Garden Cafe has since morphed into a complete restaurant now. We have always tried to be flexible because we are so happy that you are here and we would love for everyone to feel the magic that we feel!

1

Our service style has always been counter style ordering, but we run everything to you.  People have been asking for reservations for years, this winter when we reopened the cafe, we started trialing a full service approach, taking reservations, the whole 9 yards.  It has seemed to be very well received, the customers that we’ve spoken with are enjoying it.

3

Fast forward to this past weekend (March 14th – 16th, 2025), we got busy with the good weather. We could not accommodate the abundance of customers that both exceeded our reservation system and our covered seating.  Additionally, we were understaffed for that amount of customers.

Since we have always tried to accommodate everyone as best as we possibly can we let people go sit outside.  We knew this wasn’t a sustainable plan for our busy season. We were trying to work out what is actually possible and would work best for both our customers and our staff while still putting out a quality product.

Now for some real honesty…

It was evident quite quickly that we were in trouble around noon on Saturday, March 15th.  In trying to accommodate everyone, we just ended up angering patrons, leading to the inevitable bashing on social media and 2 star reviews.

Frankly, it’s exhausting.  We regrouped, got on with the day and have spent the last couple of days going over everything and trying to find a happy medium.  So please, bear with us please as we work out a couple of kinks.

It’s been the Wild West up here the last 5 years.  People show up in large groups, want separate checks, move the  tables wherever the heck they want, in general they have been allowed free will.  You don’t see that at many places.  We need to make some adjustments occasionally, so just as we really let a lot fly, we’d appreciate it if you’d be flexible with us as well.

We’re really excited for 2025, we always try to have something fun planned with you in store!  Soon the greenhouses will be bursting with beautiful blooms and we will be open 7 days a week.  We look forward to seeing everyone and doing our best to give you a lovely experience here at Crazy Daisies.

Thank you for your support!  Sometimes people forget that we are real people here doing real work and sometimes we make mistakes.  We apologize to everyone that had a bad experience here this past weekend. We see you, we hear you and we are thankful for you. We will continue to do our best not to disappoint you and hope to see you soon!

Stay Crazy,

Jennifer Cox

The Empire Plate Gets Crazy 16 Jul 2024, 3:36 pm

We had the honor of having Bill Vinci of The Empire Plate stop by our Garden Cafe back in June. The Empire Plate is a show hosted by Bill that travels all across New York State and showcases all the amazing local family owned restaurants. It was our pleasure to have Bill on our farm and in our kitchen, getting a chance to truly capture the experience and flavor that our Garden Cafe has to offer.

Our Garden Cafe is where botanicals meet the kitchen. We mixed our love for agriculture with our love for food and have created delicate small plates, hand-stretched pizzas, a small yet flavorful lunch menu, and a diabolically fresh brunch menu. You say Crazy Daises Garden Cafe.

Favorite Menu Item: Buffalo Chicken Pizza

“The taste is just so amazing. The ingredients are balanced so perfectly its harmonious. My favorite part about it though has to be our house-made garlic sauce. It provides the perfect base for the rest of the ingredients and complements the cheese, chicken, and buffalo sauce perfectly.  would 1000% recommend this pizza to someone who likes a little spice!”

Favorite Menu Item: Honey Drip Pizza

“This pizza is absolute perfection. The variety of toppings blend together so well it’s harmonious. And don’t even get me started on the creamy deliciousness that is the goat cheese on this pizza. It’s just…everything.”

Maggie Rae – Greenhouse Manager

Favorite Menu Item: Mango Lime CBD Fizz Mocktail

“A special treat from the cafe that I have really been appreciating lately, has been the Mango Lime CBD Fizz Mocktail. They are so refreshing and delicious, and a not-too-sweet special something for those who don’t want an alcoholic beverage. There are three different flavors, but my favorite is made with lime juice, blueberry thyme simple syrup, and the 1911 organic CBD Mango Lime seltzer.”

Since Maggie works in our greenhouses, we felt it was only right to hear what her favorites outside of the cafe were, here’s what she had to say:

“One of my favorite plants to work with (and to admire) in container combinations or by itself in a hanging basket are verbenas! Specifically the Proven Winner Cashmere verbena. Its lovely branching arms will reach every corner of your containers, with its big pillowing pink and white flower heads bobbing on the ends. It’s a delightful and easy way to add color and magic to your annual gardens. There are many different colors and varieties of verbena, so there’s one for everybody!”

The dreamiest sandwich of all.”

Cheese, Please! Crafting a Board That Supports Your Community 20 Jun 2024, 5:02 pm

lspc-bridalshower-16_websize

Our love of nature doesn’t stop at our greenhouses. The Garden Cafe was dreamt up from our love of creating food with real, fresh ingredients. Each of our signature creations feature ingredients either grown on our property, sourced from a local farm, or from a small business. Our guests come for hand crafted cocktails, crispy flatbreads, and one of our personal favorites – the cheese board.

Representing 5 different farms and small businesses across New York State, our board consists of a variety of three cheeses: blue, cheddar, and goat, and are complemented by seasonal fruits, pistachios, olives, fermented veggies, local honey, dijon mustard, and an assortment of vegetables and crackers.

What Kind of Cheeses Do We Offer?

Our three local cheeses are carefully selected to round out the palette of all types of cheese lovers. Included in our selection is a 4x cheddar supplied by Buttercup Cheese Market in Central Square. Buttercup ages their cheddar cheese for 4 years to create an intense flavor with enhanced texture and complexity, offering a sharper more robust taste characteristic. Our beloved garlic and chive goat cheese from 2 Kids Goat Farm in Truxton perfectly balances tangy and savory flavors. Made from their own goats’ milk, this cheese adds a layer of uniqueness to our board. And no board is complete without a “stinky” blue. Ours hails from Muranda Cheese Co. in Waterloo. Aged for 2 months and made from cow’s milk in the finger lakes, this cheese is sure to sweep your tastebuds off their feet.

What’s on the Rest of the Board:

Our cheeses are perfectly paired with seasonal elements that enhance each other’s flavors. Our fermented veggies come from Cortland’s own Food and Ferments, where they spend months preserving our favorite seasonal produce to ferment. And for a sweet and nuanced element, drizzle honey, supplied by Hiwire Honey in Lafayette, over your board.

The fruits and vegetables included are grown right on Crazy Daisies property in one of our greenhouses. Providing in-house products means we can experiment with different flavors, stay seasonal, and totally eliminate the need for preservatives, making every last bite fresh and delicious.

Savoring the Farm-To-Table Difference at the Garden Cafe

We take pride in delivering a farm-to-table experience that captures the essence of freshness and sustainability. We value bringing you exceptionally delicious food, but also taking care to support our fellow farmers. The next time you stop by the Garden Cafe, do yourself a favor by ordering our guest-favorite cheese board.
