St. Margaret’s Day Celebration 2022 3 May 2022, 1:00 pm
Please plan to join the sisters as they celebrate the Feast of St. Margaret of Antioch on Friday, July 22, 2022, in St. Margaret’s Chapel in Duxbury. The Holy Eucharist will be at 11 am followed by a festive reception. Stay tuned as more details are to come.
The Millennium Requiem May 14th, 2022 2 May 2022, 4:14 pm
Please join us for a memorial concert at St. Margaret’s Chapel on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 7:30 pm.
In 1998 Larence H Smith (1933-2021), a sixty-year resident of Duxbury composed THE MILLENNIUM REQUIEM. The premiere performance and the recording took place at the South Shore Conservatory in Duxbury that same year. To celebrate the new Millennium in 2000 at the First Parish Church, the work was given another performance by the original soloists, soprano Byung-Soon Lee, baritone Arturo Chacon, and pianist Mark
Markham.
Mr. Markham, a friend of Mr. Smith for over forty years, returns to Duxbury for a performance of THE MILLENNIUM REQUIEM on Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 pm in the Chapel of St Margaret’s Convent. The vocal soloists for this occasion will be soprano Sophia Hunt and baritone Patrick Wilhelm, both recent graduates of the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia.
While there is no admission for this concert, donations will be graciously accepted to help create the “Larence H. Smith Memorial Concert Fund” at St Margaret’s Convent. For further information, please contact the convent at sisters@ssmbos.org or at 781-934-9477.

A focus on community 29 Jan 2022, 12:35 pm
Hello faithful followers! This is just a note to remind everyone that social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) is the best place to find the most recent information on our community at this time. We will get back here to our website and are working on a redesign behind the scenes but our focus has been on community and engaging with everyone that we can during this challenging time. This has meant meeting people where they are (and that’s on social media) to share news and messages of hope and comfort to a broader audience. Stay tuned for more details on our upcoming website redesign. As always, it is our way to “love first, love midst, love last.”
Preparing for the storm 29 Jan 2022, 12:09 am
As night falls, we now begin to anticipate the storm coming our way. We are sure you have seen the news about the more than a foot of snow our region is expected to get in the next 24 hours. All the cars have gas, there is plenty of food in the house, everything that might blow away has been tied down or put inside, the shovels and snowmelt have been deployed – we are as ready as we can be.
It is entirely possible that we will lose power over the course of the storm, and we wanted to make sure you knew that we are prepared and safe.
Our prayers will be for those who will have to be out on this weather: first responders and emergency workers, utility and service workers. We have the option of staying home and continuing as much of our normal life as we can, but many people must be out in the dreadful weather to keep us safe, restore power, and ensure vital services are operational.
Being Friday, tonight is Recreation. The community will gather around to watch a few videos on YouTube and enjoy some chocolate. Recreation is a great time for us to be together: to share a laugh, tell a story or share something we have seen or heard with the community.
It is funny how a chain of thought can start…Sr. Claire Marie and Sr. Kristina Frances were talking about jasmine tea which triggered a memory for Sr. Kristina Frances about the Flower Duet from the opera Lakme. Sr. Claire Marie wanted to watch that so we will hear the duet and also the famous Bell Song from the same opera. That led to a discussion at dinner about French choral music which led to us listening to O Magnum Mysterium by Poulenc…which then led to a discussion of a boy on twitter shoveling snow…which then led to baby goats and so it goes…

St. Margaret’s Day 2019 18 Jul 2019, 2:21 am
We hope you will join us on Friday, July 19, 2019, for Holy Eucharist at 11:00 am as we celebrate St. Margaret’s Day.
Our 2019 St. Margaret’s Day appeal is an urgent call for donations to help furnish St. Marina’s Guesthouse. This is an important initiative for us as it is a way for us to welcome ALL guests, mobile or not to spend time at the convent on our now fully accessible first floor. Funds will be used for beds, bedding and chairs for the bedrooms, furniture for the meeting room, dining room, and new pots and pans for the kitchen. Please join us in putting the finishing touches on St. Marina’s that it may once again be a welcoming haven to all those seeking rest, refreshment, and renewal. If you’d like to support us now, you can text the word ‘give’ to: (978) 948-4101 to text a secure donation. Or you can donate online at: http://bit.ly/SSMgiving
We’re pleased to say the renovation of St. Marina’s Guesthouse is actually nearing completion and your donations will help us prepare it for late summer occupancy. This “old house” has been transformed for 21st-century use while still maintaining its original charm. The entire first floor is handicapped accessible; a renewed layout enhances functionality, and the building is now energy-efficient.
Our celebration is on a Friday again this year even though the actual date of our Patronal Festival is Saturday. The Duxbury Music Festival will be on the Town Green adjacent to St. Margaret’s Chapel on the weekend of July 20-21 and to have both events simultaneously would cause problems with traffic and parking. We know that there will be those who cannot come on a weekday and so we wanted to let you know that we will celebrate Holy Cross Day, the founding of the American House, on Saturday, September 14th.
Thank you for your support. We hope you will join us in person or in prayer.
