The holidays are starting to come to an end and decorations will start coming down in the next week or two. Take inventory of what you will need to store and start preparing now so you are ready. Start with the big items like a Christmas tree. Do you really want to put it back in the box it came in, yet again? Boxes start breaking down and also attract bugs! Order a Christmas tree bag like the one pictured below and toss the box! The bag makes it easier to carry and easy to store in tight places. Place your wreaths and holiday wrapping paper in the tree bag if there is space. If not, you can purchase separate wreath or wrapping paper bags/containers. Another one of my favorites is an ornament storage box. It not only helps organize your ornaments, but it makes it quicker and easier to access next year. Your home will look and feel more organized, while also protecting your cherished ornaments and decorations for the next 11 months!

Clear your Kitchen Counters! 21 Jul 2016, 3:28 pm
Household Tip #9- Do you want a more organized home? Start with the kitchen! It’s the heart of your home where everyone gathers and is the most valuable room in your home. Clear the clutter in your kitchen & your home will immediately look & feel organized! Free up that valuable kitchen counter space by putting almost everything on your counters in your cabinets & pantry if you have one. Leaving only a few items on your counter tops. The secret is to create a designated spot for everything. Don’t just throw things into your cabinets without a plan! Start by taking everything out of your cabinets & throw away or donate things you no longer use (including those souvenir cups & promotional mugs…you will thank me later ?). Then, once you have decided what to keep, strategically place the most used items on the lower shelves of upper cabinets and then work your way up. For lower cabinets, use the same principle by placing the least used items in the back and the most used in the front. Voilà! The result is a clean & organized kitchen!

Drawer Organizers! 19 Apr 2016, 9:01 pm
Household Tip #8-
Are you running out of storage space in your kitchen? Look into drawer organizers. You will be surprised at how much it helps not only organize everything, but it also frees up valuable space & keeps everything in place so you know where everything is located. Being organized will save you time hunting for that wine corkscrew that you can never find among your spatulas & kitchen gadgets.

Create a Plan! 2 Mar 2016, 2:05 pm
Household tip #7-
Having a clean and organized home starts with having a plan. So many people get overwhelmed by not knowing where to begin. Don’t just haphazardly jump from room to room…it will be an endless battle! Start by going through a new area within your home each month (or each week if you have the time). Focus only on that room and go through absolutely everything! Tossing out & donating anything you no longer use. Don’t skip any areas! Go through every drawer, and pickup each & every item. Glancing through things doesn’t make as much of an impact as actually picking everything up. Once you do, ask yourself these questions: Do I need this? Will I use this? Why do I still have this? Once you do that, you will quickly find several items to donate or throw away. Once you are done, organize everything into the proper place by placing the most used items in easy reach and less used items in harder to reach locations. Keeping anything that doesn’t belong in that room in a separate area so you can later return those items. If you leave the room to put something away, you may find yourself organizing that room or area. Be sure to stay focused on one room at a time so you don’t lose momentum. Happy organizing! ?

Spruce up for the Holidays 18 Nov 2015, 11:58 pm
Having family over for the holidays? Try these few tips to get your home ready for visitors:
1. Be sure to change out any and all burnt out light bulbs and make sure they are all the same type for a uniform look.
2. Wipe off all door handles & light switches. You may not notice the fingerprints on light switches because you know where they are located and you rarely look at them. So take a few minutes and walk around your house and make sure to get each and every light switch and door handle.
3. Last but not least, replace faded towels with new towels in the kitchen & baths. Don’t just do this for your guests, treat yourself to a new set of towels in your bathroom too! It’s an easy way to refresh your home with little money & effort.

White Vinegar part 2 1 Oct 2015, 7:57 pm
It’s time for another household tip! I’m going to continue on my love of white vinegar. Did you know it can neutralize the air after cooking something with a strong smell? For example, if your house still smells like tacos from the night before or from the fish you made, try leaving a cup or so of white vinegar out on the kitchen counter for a few hours. The air should be neutralized and back to normal. You can also clean off the hard water buildup on your faucets by filling up a small ziploc bag with a few tablespoons of white vinegar and tie it up to the faucet with a rubber band, making sure the spout of the faucet is completely submerged in vinegar. Leave it for 4-6 hours, remove the bag and lightly scrub with a dish sponge or scrubbing pad. If there is a lot of buildup & it doesn’t all come off easily, then repeat the steps with some fresh vinegar until removed. Then, rinse the area thoroughly with warm water. The result is a faucet that looks brand new!

Tax Bills 25 Sep 2015, 4:41 pm
Proposed Tax Bills have been sent out and I’ve noticed Homestead Exemptions may not be showing up on primary residence homes, which result in you paying much higher taxes. Look at the bottom of your tax bill and confirm that there is a $50k exemption added for 2015. If you are not sure, please email me or text me a photo of your statement and I’ll be happy to look at it for you.

White Vinegar is Amazing! 10 Sep 2015, 4:38 pm
Melissa’s Household Tip #4- White vinegar is amazing! If you find it hard to keep the hard water from building up (especially if you don’t have a water softener) try using white vinegar. I use it every time I run the dishwasher by filling up the pre-wash dispenser with white vinegar. Jet-dry is nowhere near as effective and is a lot more costly. A 32 oz bottle at Publix costs less than a $1 and is all natural. If your dishwasher already has a lot of hard water build-up, try running it empty with a cup or two of white vinegar. It should clean it out. If you have dishes with a build-up, rinse them out with some warm soapy water and some white vinegar in the sink. Your dishes will sparkle like new again!

How to organize your closet 21 Aug 2015, 4:33 pm
I’m going to build off of my last post about organizing your closet and continue with some helpful tips on how to make it look and feel organized. The best thing you can do is to use the same set of hangers! Hangers are cheap and when they are uniform it will give your closet the feel that everything is organized, even if there is no thought to the placement of your clothes. With different colors and sizes of hangers, your closet will appear messy. Also, consider switching to velvet hangers as they are thinner so they take up less space. Plus, they keep your clothes from slipping off the hangers. You can use them for everything in your closet, including pants as they are sturdy and don’t bend as easily as plastic hangers. I did a quick search and found a set of 50 velvet hangers on Amazon for $26.22 with free shipping. Happy organizing!

Organize & Declutter Your Closets 1 Aug 2015, 4:22 pm
Want to organize your house, but not sure where to begin? Closets are a great place to start! I try to go through my entire closet at least 2 times a year. At least once a year, I force myself to try on absolutely everything in my closet that I haven’t worn in the last 2-3 months. You will be surprised how many pieces of clothing you decide to donate. Styles change, your body changes, and things get worn out. By actually putting everything on, you will either realize why you haven’t worn it recently, or you will fall back in love with with an old favorite or even find a new favorite. Once you are done, take your clothes to your local donation center. I personally choose The Spring. With less clutter in your closet it will be easier to find the clothes you actually want to wear.
