New Trailer Trends: Rubber-Infused Wood, Black Rims, And More 29 Jun 2023, 10:48 pm

What are the latest trends with utility trailers and truck beds? We spoke with our partners BigTex Trailers and CM Truck Beds at the 2017 North American Trailer Dealer Association (NATDA) trade show to get the scoop.

Rubber Infused Lumber

There are two products that are quickly gaining in popularity: rubber-infused wood or lumber by Blackwood brand, and blacked out trailer rims. Both of these combine a cool look with function.

Rubber-infused lumber is a strip of rubber that has been bonded into a groove cut into a plank. The new surface has a lot more grip than a plain piece of lumber. It’s worth considering if you are trying to load awkward and heavy equipment onto the trailer in wet or cold climates. It also helps to keep cargo in place that otherwise may have a tendency to slide.

The black-painted steel trailer rims are the other emerging trend. It does provide a cool look with combined with silver or chrome lug nuts and center cap. They can also hide mud a little better when they get dirty.

Big Tex Introduces the Super-Duty 16 Series 29 Jun 2023, 10:34 pm

Mount Pleasant, Tex. (October 2, 2017) — Introducing the new 16 series from Big Tex. Designed to be truck friendly, the 16 series feature three different models: an equipment trailer, (16ET) a tandem axle dump (16LX) and a tilt trailer (16TL) – all available in several different lengths. The new 16 series super-sizes the capacity, components and standard feature set of the best-selling 14 series for today’s heavier work and payloads.

“The 16 series was created to meet a need. Payload is increasing and we wanted to create a trailer tough enough to handle the heavy stuff, ” said Johnathan Bradley, Big Tex Vice President of Sales. “Now, with the 16 series sporting an 83’ wide deck, customers will be able to super-size the capacity that they can haul and really #GoBigwithBigTex.”

Every trailer in the 16 series is designed with heavy loads in mind, with a GVWR of up to 17,500# and several different configurations. Features include 8,000# cambered, oil-bath axles, premium HD black mod wheels with 5/8” studs and Nev-R-Adjust electric brakes on all hubs. A 12,000# spring-loaded side wind jack and Zip Break Away cables make loading, and securing that load for hauling, simple and convenient. The 16 series has all the muscle and ruggedness of a larger trailer without missing the built-smart features and ease of the best-selling14 series.

The super duty equipment trailer (16ET) offers a stronger build, better components and more features than competing trailers, ensuring a safe haul for a heavy load. It’s available with a cleated dovetail, and comes with 5’ tall, 20”-wide heavy-duty stand-up ramps. The deck is made of 2” pine or Douglas fir boards, and the double broke diamond plate steel fenders can be removed to get them out of the way. It can also be configured as a gooseneck.

The super duty 16LX is a heavy-load hauler that truly delivers both the toughest payloads and exceptional value. The 83” low-profile, full-width dump bed has 24”-tall, 10-gauge sides and a 7-gauge floor. A self-contained electric/hydraulic scissor hoist makes lifting easy and there’s an under-bed shovel/tool pan for convenience. This dump trailer is loaded with features like an included crank-style roll tarp kit, an onboard battery charger, combo-style rear gates, and an optional 7’ rear slide-in structural channel ramp package. It is also available as a gooseneck.

The 16TL marries an innovative approach to tilt platform design with a super-duty frame and suspension to make cargo hauling a breeze. The 83”-wide, 16’ tilt bed is supplemented by a 4’ or 6’ stationary bed. Capacity can be further enlarged by removing the double broke diamond plate steel fenders. The hydraulic dampening cylinder with valve control is operated by the single-side EZ pedal locking mechanism. Conveniences like a tray in the tongue area, rub rail tie-down pockets and surface-mount D-rings on the frame top are all about making the job easier.
