Carolinas’ Source for Commercial & Industrial General Contracting

Bobbitt Construction Achieves AC478 Accreditation 9 Apr 2025, 8:15 pm

The Metal Building Contractors and Erectors Association (MBCEA) announces that Bobbitt Construction, Inc., headquartered in Cary, North Carolina and servicing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia is the first metal building assembler based in North Carolina to obtain the prestigious AC478 accreditation administered by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). AC478, Accreditation for Metal Building Assemblers Inspection, is a standard to recognize metal building assemblers committed to excellence.

Achieving this accreditation demonstrates that Bobbitt has the personnel, the organizational skills, vast experience, knowledge, management procedures, and commitment to assemble metal buildings in accordance with code, specifications, costs and deadlines. Requirements for this accreditation include documented management systems, rigorous safety training, quality managers, OSHA training, documented safety plans, site-specific plans, and other documentation.

“AC478 accreditation achieved by Bobbitt Construction exemplifies their culture, their reputation, in taking the complex process of construction and making it safe, making it easy – even enjoyable – to their clients and partners,” notes MBCEA President Robert Tiffin. “Congratulations to the team, the family at Bobbitt Construction!”

Bobbitt CEO Brian Denisar said, “Pursuing the IAS AC478 accreditation was a natural step for us as we continue to strengthen our safety practices, training, and project execution. The process gave us the opportunity to take a close look at the systems we depend on and ensure they meet a nationally recognized standard. Being the only metal building assembler in North and South Carolina to earn this accreditation highlights our commitment to doing the job right—for our clients, our teams, and the communities we serve.”

The MBCEA was formed in 1968 to serve the needs and support the interests of metal building contractors and erectors. It has 3 main goals:

  • Education: To provide programs and venues that enhance education opportunities for metal building contractors and erectors.
  • Image Enhancement: To develop programs to enhance the image of metal building contractors and erectors, and the metal building industry.
  • Grassroots Support: To develop and maintain programs specifically designed to support and respond to the needs of the grassroots membership of the MBCEA.

Bobbitt Supports Women in Construction Week 11 Mar 2025, 7:43 pm

For 79 years, Bobbitt has been a cornerstone of the commercial and industrial construction industry. As a full-service general contractor specializing in design-build, the company provides comprehensive solutions, including general contracting, interior construction, and construction management. Its deep local roots and expertise ensure that every project is designed with purpose and built for lasting impact.

The team at Bobbitt believes that a strong, diverse workforce drives innovation and success. This is evidenced in its commitment to creating an environment where women can thrive in all facets of construction.

Three women at Bobbitt share how the company champions diverse perspectives and how their role helps strengthen the communities around the Triangle area. Click here to view the full article:

How does Bobbitt value people?
“Bobbitt values people based on their skills and contributions, not just their gender. When I was hired, and when any of the women at Bobbitt was hired, it was based on merit—not as part of a diversity initiative or for the sake of meeting quotas. Bobbitt doesn’t single out women for special treatment; instead, the company focuses on hiring the best person for the job, regardless of gender.”

Why should more women consider a career in the construction field?
“I’ve been in the industry for 27 years…and I wish more women would give construction a chance. It offers real opportunities to grow, increase your earning potential, and build a career where you can pass down knowledge to the next generation. Women are accepted here. You can start in any position and work your way up.”

-Machelle Grospitz

How is Bobbitt’s leadership advancing opportunities for women in the industry?
“I have never felt more respected as an architect than I do at Bobbitt, which is the opposite of many of my past experiences in this field. For most of my career, I have been in the minority as a woman in architecture. At Bobbitt, my perspective is genuinely valued. Leadership listens to me, supports what I advocate for, and actively opens doors for me. Different experiences and viewpoints lead to stronger, more well-rounded solutions.”

Why is emotional intelligence an important contribution to the construction industry?
“Strong emotional intelligence helps build connections, strengthen teams, and create a more collaborative work environment. In the public sector, having a diverse team helps open doors and build trust with clients. When a client sees themselves represented in the team they’re working with, it fosters a stronger relationship and, ultimately, a better project outcome. At Bobbitt, our design team is evenly split—50% male and 50% female—and 25% of our team members are from minority backgrounds. That kind of balance makes a real difference in the way we approach projects and problem-solving.”

-Bailey Allred

What are some of the biggest benefits of having women in construction?
“Women bring a natural sense of care and nurturing, which benefits both our clients and our teams. We’re often strong multitaskers, which allows us to approach challenges with a balanced perspective. Women also tend to focus more on the why behind a project, not just the what—we think about the long-term vision as well as the immediate execution. That kind of perspective strengthens our work.”

Why is diversity in construction important to you and Bobbitt?
“As a woman of color, representation is deeply personal to me. I started out in this industry 22 years ago, there were no women or people of color in leadership positions and therefore visualizing myself in those positions was difficult. I want women and people of color to know “You can do this, there are no limitations to your success.”

Diversity in our workforce also means bringing different perspectives and voices into the room. Our clientele is diverse, so it’s imperative for them to see that same diversity reflected in us.

It took time to build confidence, to step up and be respected for my voice and my ideas. But what I’ve learned is this: Come in as you are, and never try to blend in. Bobbitt values people for who they are and the unique perspectives they bring. Once you embrace that and grow into being a trailblazer, that’s when you truly shine.”

Preparing Your Commercial Building for Winter 27 Nov 2024, 4:23 pm

Winter weather can bring unexpected challenges for commercial properties, from freezing temperatures to snow and ice. Without proper preparation, these conditions can lead to costly damage and operational disruptions. Taking proactive steps to protect your building can prevent issues, improve energy efficiency, and ensure your facility remains safe and functional throughout the season. Here’s how to get started.

Waterproof Your Building

Severe winter weather often causes problems due to freezing water. While frozen pipes come to mind first, water infiltration can be just as problematic. Small cracks in stucco or brick mortar, missing or failing caulk around vents, windows, and roof curbs, or rusted components like flashing and lintels can become significant issues when water freezes and expands. These problems can worsen over time and lead to water infiltration, system failures, or structural damage.

Now is the perfect time to inspect your building’s exterior and address these maintenance needs. Painting rusted building components and recaulking penetrations and cracks can be done using materials available at local hardware stores.

Check your roof for signs of ponding water. Common causes include clogged drains or improperly piped HVAC condensate lines, which are often quick fixes. Ponded water can freeze, creating ice dams that further buildup and increase the risk of water infiltration.

As you are inspecting the outside of your building, be sure to disconnect any hoses from exterior spigots and drain or insulate any water lines or exposed pipes that are not buried below the frost line. If you use irrigation pumps, they should be disconnected and drained as well.

Plan for Snow and Ice

As temperatures drop, it is important to have a plan in place for managing snow and ice. Keep de-icing and snow removal tools on hand to maintain safe sidewalks and driveways. Avoid using rock salt, as it can damage concrete. We recommend using sand as a safer alternative.

If heavy snowfall occurs, monitor your roof for excessive snow buildup that could lead to structural problems with the roof’s support system. Create a plan for safely removing snow if necessary.

Maintain Your Building Systems

Periodic maintenance of your building’s mechanical systems is essential to ensuring functionality during winter months. HVAC systems should be serviced twice a year, with one checkup scheduled before cold weather. Backup generators also require routine maintenance, including checking connections to ensure they are linked to the intended systems.

Proactive Commercial Building Maintenance

Proactive inspections and maintenance are critical to extending the lifespan of your commercial building and avoiding costly repairs. Radius Builds service team offers annual service agreements that include periodic inspections of your entire exterior. Scheduled maintenance stabilizes your operating budget, minimizes unexpected repairs, and keeps your building operating efficiently.
