Paramount Provides Grant to Caribbean Designer in Association with ‘Bob Marley; One Love’ Movie 10 Feb 2024, 8:00 am

.post-author a { display: none; } In celebration of the Bob Marley; One Love movie, Paramount Pictures partnered with non-profit organizations Harlem Fashion Row and Icon 360 to present the One Love Fashion Grant. The grant was created with the goal of honoring the legacy of Bob Marley by uplifting and amplifying the under-represented voices within the Black fashion community.

The winner of the grant was IGDALYAH by Igdaliah Pickering. Coming from the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Igdaliah founded IGDALYAH in 2019 after studying fashion design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Igdaliah’s work shows her passion for expressing her cultural heritage through the art of fashion. In the words of Igdaliah herself, IGDALYAH exists to “produce art that challenges the rules of society as we know it.”

A check for $30,000 was presented for IGDALYAH at the New York Fashion Week screening of the ‘Bob Marley; One Love’ Movie. Igdaliah received the grant and was joined on stage by Director Reinaldo Marcus Green.

Green reflected on the evening stating, “Bob carried a heavy burden to give us joyful music…he connects with everybody in every corner of the world.”

Over 2,000 Jamaican employed for production of ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ movie 25 Jan 2024, 10:00 am

In a pre-screening speech at Carib 5 for the Jamaican premiere of Bob Marley: One Love, Brian Robbins, CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, announced that over 2,000 Jamaicans were directly employed in the cast and production of the movie. He noted, “Everyone at Paramount is so honored to have worked alongside the Marley family to bring this story of Bob’s message of love, peace, and unity to the big screen. We are very proud.”

“We truly could not have done this film without the people of Jamaica. In front of and behind the camera, we were able to employ over 400 Jamaican cast and crew, and more than 1,800 background actors to deliver 25 days of filming on the island,” he continued.

In addition to the production of this major motion picture, which was shot on location in Jamaica and the U.K., Paramount has also made significant investments outside of filming Bob Marley: One Love in Trench Town, Jamaica, the backdrop of Bob’s childhood. “Our partnership with the people of Kingston has resulted in some of our significant local investment ever, centered in the Trench Town community that so graciously welcomed us. This included the construction of an outdoor learning pavilion and security booths at the Trench Town Primary school,” said Robbins.

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ Builds New Outdoor Pavilion for Trench Town Primary School in Jamaica 23 Jan 2024, 10:00 am

Students and faculty of the Trench Town Primary School in Kingston, Jamaica welcomed a new outdoor pavilion constructed in association with the Bob Marley: One Love movie and Paramount Pictures. Local Jamaican organizations Rosetown Foundation and The American Friends Of Jamaica also contributed to making the project possible.

The structure was built in the heart of Trench Town, and was dedicated to Colin Keith Smikle. Smikle was the location scout for the film and passed away during the filming of the movie.

The neighborhood of Trench Town played a large role in shaping the music of Bob Marley. It was in Trench Town where Bob started his first group the Teenagers, which later became The Wailers. The Bob Marley: One Love movie filmed in various locations around Trench Town, including Collie Smith Drive, 2nd Street, and 5th Street. The Pavilion is a token of the Marley Family and Paramount’s appreciation for the graciousness of the Jamaican communities that welcomed the production team throughout the planning and filming process.

“Bob Marley: One Love” is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, starring Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley and Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley. The movie hits theaters worldwide on February 14, 2024. Get tickets today at OneLoveMovie.com.

Ziggy Marley on Kingsley Ben-Adir Portraying His Father + New Trailer Out TOMORROW 4 Dec 2023, 6:00 am

‘Catch A Fire’ 50th anniversary edition coming November 3rd on vinyl, CD 3 Nov 2023, 10:00 am

CATCH A FIRE, Bob Marley and The Wailers’ seminal first release on Island Records, universally regarded as the album that put reggae music on the global stage, is being re-issued via UMe on November 3rd to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its original release in 1973. “Slave Driver,” one of the most powerful tracks on the album, will be released as a single, accompanied by remarkable live performance footage recently unearthed from the legendary Edmonton show in England in 1973.

A hugely anticipated new film, BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE, celebrating the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity, is in theatres on January 12, 2024. Produced by Ziggy Marley, Cedella Marley, and Rita Marley, and with Stephen Marley as the music supervisor, the film tells the inspirational story of how Bob overcame huge adversity to become one of the world’s most revered musical and cultural giants through the power and beauty of his revolutionary music. CATCH A FIRE is the fifth studio album by Bob Marley and The Wailers and was the first to be released by Island Records UK. The album originally had a limited release and was credited to The Wailers. Housed in a memorable sleeve in the shape of a Zippo lighter designed by graphic artists Rod Dyer and Bob Weiner, CATCH A FIRE’s future versions would feature the classic portrait of Marley smoking a “spliff,” taken by Esther Anderson. From then on, the artist credit was Bob Marley and The Wailers. After touring and recording in the UK with Johnny Nash, Nash’s departure to the United States left the Wailers without enough money to return home. They approached Island founder and producer Chris Blackwell, who advanced them the money for an album and paid their fares back to Jamaica, where they recorded CATCH A FIRE. The album features nine songs, two of which were written by Peter Tosh and the rest by Bob Marley. After Marley’s return to London to present the tapes to Blackwell, the producer reworked the tracks with contributions by Muscle Shoals session musician Wayne Perkins, who played guitar on two overdubbed tracks.

Marking the beginning of the anniversary celebrations will be the unearthing of the “Slave Driver” performance from the Edmonton show in 1973, available on his YouTube page. Fans can enjoy an ensemble of videos over the next few months to mark the release of the 50th-anniversary editions in November.

CATCH A FIRE will be available in two special formats: a 3 x Vinyl LP + 12” set and a 3 CD set, as well as digitally across all platforms. LP1/CD1 features the full final studio recording, LP2/CD2 is the 10-song live album, “Live From The Paris Theatre London,” while LP3/CD3, entitled Sessions, features alternative, extended, and instrumental Jamaican versions of the original album tracks. The additional 12”, available with the vinyl offering, and also included on CD3, features three classic tracks, “Slave Driver,” “Get Up, Stand Up” and “Stop That Train,” recorded live at the Wailer’s legendary performance at the Sundown Theatre in the village of Edmonton, North London. These historic recordings have only previously been available as a bootleg. The reverse side of the 12” has an etched image of the iconic Zippo lighter illustration.

Both LP and CD packages will include a book comprised of classic images of Marley from photo shoots with long-time collaborators Adrian Boot, and Arthur Gorson, who shot images of Bob for two weeks in Jamaica, Dennis Morris, and Neville Garrick. The packages will also include press clippings from the era, while brand new sleeve notes have been written by renowned music journalist and author Chris Salewicz. The formats will utilize both iconic sleeve designs, the original famous Zippo lighter illustration and the later version with Bob smoking a spliff. The D2C offering will be a limited-edition run pressed on colored vinyl.

The album has received enormous critical acclaim, including being listed on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” the second highest placement of the five Bob Marley albums on the list, after the posthumous compilation album Legend. It is also rightly regarded as one of the greatest, most important, and influential albums, across all genres, of all time.
