High Output Compact Recycling
The Munchy 150 Air is capable of high output recycling of scrap rolls of film whilst maintaining a compact, energy efficient design.
Using Munchy Screw Technology, the scrap rolls are fed directly into the machine without the need for any size reduction operation. This minimises the amount of thermal degradation the material is subjected to and thus produces a far superior quality pellet.
The higher the quality of pellet produced enables the user to recycle a higher percentage and therefore make more cost savings.
The Munchy 150 feature energy efficient, AC Direct Drive Technology for precision speed holding and consistent performance.
A colour touch screen PLC allows for simple operation.

On-Line Recycling Solution For “Sticky” Trims
When it comes to recycling sticky edge trims on-line such as Stretch Film the difficulty is consistently feeding the recycling machine.
The sticky nature of the material means it cannot be conveyed using an air system such as with regular edge trims.
Munchy has developed the Powertrim Feeding System which feeds the sticky trims into directly into the recycling system. This consistent feeding directly onto the Munchy Screw produces even, high quality pellets at all times.

Produktion trotz Covid-19 aufrecht erhalten

Boston Matthews helps in fight against Covid-19
British Plastics & Rubber - July 2020
by Grace Nolan
Boston Matthews, a extrusion machinery manufacturer, has announced the completion and shipping of multiple extruders to be used in the direct treatment of Covid-19.
The company says due to the sensitive nature of the machinery, it’s application and the customer Boston Matthews is unable to divulge the specification of the extruders or name the customer.
The extruders will be used by a World-renowned manufacturer of medical devices to produce vital components which will be used in intensive care units and other respiratory care environments of hospitals in more than 120 countries around the World.
Boston Matthews Managing Director, Simon Brookes, said: "The order was placed earlier this year when the majority of the World was either in lockdown or about to enter lockdown which was a very strange and uncertain time which I think everyone will empathise with. However, it was of vital importance to the customer that we were able to maintain our production levels and commit to fulfilling this extremely sensitive order on time."
"Knowing how important this order was especially in the middle of a Pandemic it was also of vital importance we maintained production for our existing machine order obligations. We therefore undertook a massive internal planning initiative involving all aspects of the supply chain, production levels and personnel availability so that we could accommodate this order. As a result, a select team was chosen specifically to handle this new order from start to finish and I am very pleased to say they performed professionally and diligently throughout and the entire project was completed ahead of schedule.”

Richard Brookes, Marketing Director of extrusion machinery manufacturer Boston Matthews, got my attention this week when he sent me an e-mail and wrote, "I am pleased to attach some good news during these strange times." He went on to say that his company had completed the production and assembly of multiple machines ahead of schedule that will be used to produce medical devices for the direct treatment of COVID-19. Good news, indeed, and a pretty impressive lineup of equipment, as the image below shows.
Unfortunately but somewhat predictably, Boston Matthews is unable to divulge details about the extruders or the customer, except to say that the latter is a global manufacturer of medical devices. The machines will be employed to produce components used in intensive care units and other respiratory care environments of hospitals in more than 120 countries.
"The order was placed earlier this year, when the majority of the world was either in lockdown or about to enter lockdown,” explained Managing Director Simon Brookes. "It was of vital importance to the customer that we were able to maintain our production levels and commit to fulfilling this extremely sensitive order on time. Knowing how important this order was, especially in the middle of a pandemic, it was also of vital importance we maintained production for our existing machine order obligations,” added Brookes.
Boston Matthews, which is headquartered in Worcester, England, UK, and operates a facility in Coral Springs, FL, engaged in a massive internal planning initiative involving all aspects of the supply chain, production levels, and personnel availability so that it could accommodate this order, said Brookes. "A select team was chosen specifically to handle this new order from start to finish, and I am very pleased to say they performed professionally and diligently throughout, and the entire project was completed ahead of schedule.”
Boston Matthews has designed and manufactured extrusion equipment for medical applications for more than 45 years. Specialized extrusion lines in its portfolio are used in the fabrication of polystyrene pipette tubes, bump tubing, single- and multi-lumen tubing, catheter tubing, and blood bags. The company also serves the automotive, packaging, and wire and cable sectors, among many others.

On-Line Recycling At K’2019
K'2019 was a highly successful show for Munchy. Worldwide visitors from over 30 countries were particularly interested in on-line recycling solutions offered by the company.
Taking the spotlight was the recycling solutions for the Blown Film and Packaging Industries with much interest in On-Line Edge Trim Recycling and Off-Spec Reels which are easily recycled into 1st Class Pellets after direct feeding into the Munchy. This recycling solution (invented by Munchy) is the preferred method of recycling for this industry as the quality of pellets produced is far superior to any alternative method.
Compact On-Line Recycling 12 Jul 2019, 2:27 am
Compact On-Line Recycling
The mini MUNCHY has been designed specifically for use within the blown film industry to provide small, energy efficient, non-obstructive recycling of edge trim. It’s compact and ‘open construction’ allow for low maintenance, non-operator dependent and on-line operation. AC vector and direct-drive technology ensures that maximum power is transferred for energy efficient recycling. Plugs and sockets allow for routine maintenance to be carried out by the operator without the need to wait for dedicated maintenance personnel. The Air Pelletising System is quick and easy to access for efficient cleaning whilst eliminating the problems associated with water cooled systems.
MUNCHY states "There has never been more pressure upon manufacturers to recycle their scrap material and maximise their profitability. The introduction of these two new ranges means that Munchy can provide the most complete recycling system to meet with the exact demands of the processor.”

Plastics Processors Turning To Recycling 3 Aug 2018, 6:13 am
Plastics Processors Turning To Recycling
Recycling machinery manufacturer MUNCHY has reported a significant rise in the level of enquiries from processors wishing to recycle their scrap and waste materials into pellets that can be re-used back into their production operation. The company is conducting a higher number of material trials for customers and as a result the number of orders for recycling systems is greater than this time last year. After lengthy discussions with a wide range of processors from around the world MUNCHY can state that the main contributory factors to this increased interest in recycling is due to the heavy rise in production costs mainly caused by the price of polymer, rising energy bills and increased transportation costs. With machine payback in approximately one year or less in some cases, processors are making the investment now in order to remain competitive.
MUNCHY President Simon Brookes states " We have experienced an increase in enquiries from a much wider sphere of applications and industries than those traditionally associated with recycling. Companies from all markets and sectors now recognise the importance and value of gaining maximum return and profitability in all of their operations. An investment in a recycling unit was seen as secondary to that of production equipment but recently organisations have realized there is a real cost saving to be made through recycling and are making the investment now. Until recently organisations were happy for much of their scrap to be collected or even paid for it to be collected. Now they are looking to utilise that scrap to its full potential and make savings.”
The launch of Muncher has also been a contributory factor in enabling organisations to maximise their full scrap potential. The Muncher’s ability to recycle a wide range of material forms makes it more appealing than ‘traditional recycling systems that were aimed primarily at the blown film and sheet industries. Manufacturers that have bags, bales, ropes, non-wovens, EPS, sacks, etc can reprocess this scrap waste into high quality grade pellets for utilisation in the main production operation. The Muncher is also easy to clean and therefore allows for a number of differing materials and polymer blends to be reprocessed without the fear of cross-contamination or lengthy clean down.
MUNCHY Recycling Systems are capable of reprocessing a wide range materials and material forms with outputs of 8 to 1,250 Kg/hr.
The MUNCHY Range includes mini Munchy, MUNCHY AIR, MUNCHY WATER, The MUNCHER
New High Output Munchy with Air Cooling 3 Aug 2018, 3:22 am
New High Output Munchy with Air Cooling
Plastics recycling machinery manufacturer Munchy is pleased to announce the introduction of a new high output air recycling machine.
The Munchy 150 Air is capable of reprocessing scrap plastics into high quality pellets at up to 150 Kg/hr (330 lb/hr). The pellets can then be re-used in the main production operation.
Using Munchy’s Dual-Diameter Screw Technology the scrap plastic material is not subjected to any unnecessary thermal degradation normally associated with a size reduction operation allowing for air cooling to be performed at higher outputs. The direct feeding onto the screw also ensures a higher quality of pellet is produced allowing for a greater percentage to be used back into the main production operation increasing cost savings and efficiency.
The Munchy 150 Air is designed to be compact with simple, low cost operation. Direct Drive AC Technology reduces energy consumption whilst reducing operating noise levels and routine maintenance. The machine has been designed so that all routine maintenance can be carried out by the operator which eliminates the need for expensive maintenance personnel and downtime waiting for assistance.
Munchy President Simon Brookes stated "Air as a cooling method is preferred over Water pelletising systems because it reduces the machine footprint
and overall is a "cleaner” more simple operation. Machine clean down is easier and quicker so the ability to switch materials without the risk of cross contamination is made easier.”
