Failing to do do will prevent the successful installation of the KMS activator and will most likely flag it as being infected with “HackTool: Win32/AutoKMS”. This is nothing more than Microsoft attempting to prevent you from using a KMS activator to license your copy of Windows for free.
Thankfully, there is a simple way to bypass these warnings and install your KMS activator successfully. Follow this guide, and we will show you how to disable Windows Security on Windows 10.
Disable Windows Security in 8 Steps

How to disable Windows Security to install KMSpico and other activators
- Open Windows Security
Click on the Start Menu and type “Windows Security” in the search box.
- Click on “Virus and Thread Protection”
- Click on “Manage Settings” under Virus and threat protection settings.
- Disable “Real Time Protection”
This will allow you to download, unzip and install KMSpico (or other KMS activators) without the false detection.

If Windows Defender is warning you of threads named “HackTool: Win32/AutoKMS” then these can be safely ignored as they are not threads at all. In this guide we will show you how to disable Windows Defender, so that you can successfully install your KMS activator.
Switch off Windows Defender

How to disable Windows Defender
- Launch Windows Defender
Click on the Start Menu, type “defender” into the search box, and then click on the Windows Defender application.
- Enter the Options menu
Click on the Tools menu at the top of the Windows Defender window, and then click on the Options menu.
- Turn off Windows Defender
Switch to the Administrator tab in the left-hand pane, and then uncheck the “Use this program” check box. Click the “Save” button.

KMSpico is fully compatible with both x32 and x64 versions of Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and Windows 10. This quick guide will show you how to install KMSpico on Windows 8.1, but the procedure is exactly the same for all other versions.
KMSpico can also be used to activate Microsoft Office versions 2010, 2013, 2016 and Office 365 in much the same way.
How to install KMSpico
- Download the latest version
You can get the latest the latest version from our website by visiting our ‘KMSpico latest version‘ post.
- Disable Antivirus and Windows Defender
It is important that you disable all antivirus and malware software including Windows Defender. These identify KMSPico as HackTool.KMSAuto. This is not a Virus but simply Microsoft’s way of preventing you from using KMSpico to activate Windows.

- Extract KMSpico from the .zip file
You may be asked for a password in order to unzip the file. If so, please check our KMSpico Password post for the correct password.

- Run KMSpico from Start>Programs>KMSpico
One the main GUI has loaded, you will be presented with the screen below. Simply click on the red button and wait for KMSpico to activate your version of Windows (and Office if you have it installed). It’s that simple!
