Skin Care Clinic in Plano, TXWhy VISIA Is the Best First Step Before Any Aesthetic Treatment 15 Apr 2025, 12:00 pm
When you’re considering cosmetic treatments to improve your skin, it’s natural to focus on what you can see in the mirror, such as wrinkles, dark spots, redness, or enlarged pores. But what if you could go deeper and understand what’s really happening beneath the surface? Here in Plano, TX, Dr. Fiona Wright uses VISIA® Facial Analysis as a powerful diagnostic tool to help you take the smartest first step in your skincare journey.
With over two decades of experience in cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Wright combines cutting-edge technology with clinical expertise to create personalized treatment plans that are based on real data, not guesswork.
What Makes VISIA Different?
VISIA uses high-resolution imaging and advanced software to assess your skin on eight different levels, including texture, pore size, sun damage, bacteria presence, wrinkles, redness, and UV spots. It even compares your results to a database of people with your same age and skin type, giving you a percentile score for each metric.
By showing you what’s happening on and below your skin’s surface, VISIA gives a clear and accurate baseline of your skin health. This information helps you and Dr. Wright decide which treatments will benefit you the most — whether you’re interested in laser treatments, injectables, or a customized skincare routine.
Why It Matters Before Starting Treatment
Every skin treatment works differently, and not every option is right for every concern. For example, brown spots caused by sun damage respond best to one kind of laser, while redness from rosacea requires another. By analyzing your skin in detail, VISIA helps prevent trial-and-error treatments that may not deliver the results you’re looking for.
Dr. Wright uses VISIA to guide your treatment plan based on what your skin truly needs. This means you’ll get targeted care—whether you’re trying to improve texture, clear up acne, reduce fine lines, or even out your skin tone. With the insights VISIA provides, your treatment is more effective, efficient, and safer.
Track Your Progress Over Time
VISIA isn’t just a one-time evaluation. It also allows you to track your progress after treatments. You can see changes in your skin over time with side-by-side images, giving you confidence that your skincare investment is truly paying off.
Start with a Smarter Plan for Beautiful Results
If you’re ready to improve your skin but want to make sure you’re starting with the right treatment, VISIA analysis can give you the insight you need. Dr. Wright is an award-winning doctor with her own skincare line rooted in science. She is committed to helping you look and feel your best—with friendly, experienced care. Laser Resurfacing vs. Microneedling: Which Is Right for Your Skin? 15 Mar 2025, 12:00 pm
When it comes to skin rejuvenation, both laser resurfacing and microneedling are popular treatments that improve skin texture, reduce fine lines, and promote collagen production. At Skin MD and Beyond, Dr. Fiona Wright and her team specialize in advanced non-surgical treatments to help you achieve smoother, younger-looking skin. If you’re considering laser resurfacing or microneedling, understanding their differences can help you choose the best option for your skin type and goals.
How Laser Resurfacing Works
Laser resurfacing uses focused light energy to remove damaged skin layers and stimulate collagen growth. It is highly effective in treating wrinkles, sun damage, acne scars, and uneven pigmentation. Fractional laser treatments create controlled micro-injuries to trigger the skin’s natural healing process. This leads to tighter, firmer, and more even-toned skin over time. Depending on the intensity of the laser, downtime can range from a few days to a couple of weeks.
How Microneedling Works
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves using tiny needles to create micro-punctures in the skin. These controlled injuries stimulate the body’s natural collagen and elastin production, improving skin texture, fine lines, and mild scarring. Unlike laser resurfacing, microneedling is safe for all skin types and has minimal downtime—most patients experience redness for 24 to 48 hours. At our office, we use the DermaPen, the world’s most advanced microneedling technology.
Which Treatment Is Right for You?
- For deep wrinkles and significant sun damage: Laser resurfacing is better because it can remove deeper layers of damaged skin.
- For acne scars: Both treatments can improve scarring, but laser resurfacing may be more effective for deep scars.
- For enlarged pores and mild texture issues: Microneedling works well by improving skin tone and stimulating collagen with little downtime.
- For sensitive or darker skin tones: Microneedling is the safer choice, as some lasers may cause pigmentation issues.
- For minimal downtime: Microneedling allows for faster recovery, while laser resurfacing requires more healing time.

Both laser resurfacing and microneedling offer excellent results, but the right treatment depends on your skin type, concerns, and lifestyle. At Skin MD and Beyond, Dr. Fiona Wright and her team provide personalized skin evaluations to help you choose the best option. It’s no wonder she has earned a BSMC National Award for Excellence in Patient Satisfaction. Transition Your Spring Skincare Routine – Organically! 10 Mar 2025, 5:59 pm
Your skin is the largest living, breathing organ on your body. Up to 60% of what you apply on your skin gets absorbed into your bloodstream, which then gets circulated around your whole body. But that doesn’t mean that you have to compromise with your skincare! Organic skincare products in the Fiona Wright, MD skincare line provides high quality products for any skin type that will help you keep your skin healthy and glowing.
And as we start the transition from winter to spring, it’s important to address your skin’s changing needs. Here’s three simple steps to start your skincare routine conversion to warmer weather and healthy skin!
1. Exfoliate
During the dry, cold winter months, our skin barrier is more sensitive and can only tolerate exfoliation once a week. Since the skin is more susceptible to damage during the colder months, less exfoliation is good. But this can leave a thick layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin. So heading into warmer weather, it’s a good idea to up the exfoliation to every other day to remove the old buildup and expose fresh skin. With its natural exfoliant of cranberry and jojoba beads, our Fruit Exfoliating Cleanser will brighten your complexion and leave your skin feeling soft and renewed.
2. Regenerate
With more time spent outside enjoying the sun, our skin is exposed to more environmental pollutants that can damage skin cells and cause premature aging. Using skincare products with antioxidants helps to fight pollution and prevent damage that leads to collagen loss, pigmentation and skin irritation. One of the most popular antioxidants is Vitamin C, which has been proven to help protect the skin and even work to reverse damage! Choosing a hydrating serum like our Advanced Renewal Infusion, which contains the highest form of active, bio-available Vitamin C combined with the superior moisturizing power of botanically derived hyaluronic acid, can help your skin turn back time and enjoy brighter and smoother skin.
3. Moisturize
Winter skincare is all about locking in as much moisture as possible, but as the weather starts to warm up, our skin produces more natural oils. But this doesn’t mean skin needs any less hydration! Instead, switch to a lighter moisturizer to help keep pores clear and avoid overloading spring skin with excess oil as the weather warms up. You can switch to our Age Defying Moisturizer, boosting your skin’s hydration with powerful nutrients that encourage healthy, vibrant skin.

Which Type of Restylane Is Right for You? 28 Feb 2025, 12:01 am
Restylane is one of the most trusted names in dermal fillers, offering a wide range of products designed to address specific aesthetic concerns. However, with so many Restylane options, you may have trouble determining which is right for you. At Skin MD and Beyond in Plano, TX, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Fiona Wright and her expert team are well-versed in the nuances of Restylane treatments, helping you to achieve natural-looking, youthful results tailored to their needs.
Exploring the Different Types of Restylane
Each type of Restylane is formulated to address different areas of the face or specific concerns, allowing for a highly personalized approach to treatment. Here’s a breakdown of the available options and when they may be right for you:
- Restylane: The original Restylane formula is a versatile option for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It can also be used to enhance lip volume and definition, making it a go-to choice for those looking to refresh their appearance.
- Restylane Silk: Specifically designed for delicate areas, Restylane Silk is ideal for subtle lip enhancement and smoothing fine lines around the mouth. Its smooth consistency ensures a natural finish, perfect for those who want soft, understated results.
- Restylane Lyft: For those looking to restore volume to the cheeks or address deeper wrinkles, Restylane Lyft is an excellent option. This filler is also FDA-approved for use in the hands, making it a versatile choice for combating signs of aging.
- Restylane Perlane: While similar to the original Restylane, Perlane has a slightly thicker consistency, making it ideal for deeper wrinkles and folds. It’s often used to add volume to areas like the cheeks and jawline for a more sculpted look.
- Restylane Refyne: Designed with XpresHAn Technology, Restylane Refyne is perfect for treating moderate to severe facial lines while maintaining natural facial expressions. It’s an excellent choice for those who want flexibility and subtle enhancements.
- Restylane Defyne: Similar to Refyne, Restylane Defyne also uses XpresHAn Technology but is formulated to address deeper lines and wrinkles. It provides more pronounced correction while still preserving natural movement and expressions.
Which Restylane Product Is Right for You?

I Take Care of My Skin, So Why Is It Getting Looser? 15 Jan 2025, 12:00 pm
Caring for your skin is an essential part of maintaining a youthful appearance. Unfortunately, your skin can still lose its firmness over time despite your best efforts. At Skin MD and Beyond, cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Fiona Wright and her team have a nuanced understanding of skin aging, which is why we offer a variety of advanced, non-invasive solutions to help you regain confidence in your appearance.
Why Does Skin Lose Elasticity?
Skin elasticity naturally diminishes as you age due to the gradual breakdown of collagen and elastin—two essential proteins that keep your skin firm and supple. Beginning in your late 20s or early 30s, your body produces less collagen, which gradually weakens the skin’s structure. External factors like prolonged sun exposure, environmental pollutants, and hormonal shifts during menopause or pregnancy can accelerate this natural decline, resulting in sagging skin even for those who maintain a strict skincare routine. While using quality moisturizers and serums can help slow the process, these treatments often target only the skin’s surface, leaving deeper issues unaddressed.
The Role of Lifestyle and Genetics
Genetics play a significant role in how quickly your skin shows signs of aging. Additionally, lifestyle factors such as smoking, stress, and lack of sleep can further deplete your skin’s collagen reserves. While using quality skincare products helps protect your skin, these external treatments often can’t fully address the deeper causes of skin laxity.
Treatments That Can Restore Skin Firmness
At Skin MD and Beyond, we offer innovative, non-invasive treatments to target skin laxity. Procedures like radiofrequency microneedling and advanced laser treatments are designed to stimulate collagen production and tighten skin from within. These techniques provide noticeable results with minimal downtime, making them ideal for patients seeking effective solutions without surgery.
Personalized Care at Skin MD and Beyond
Dr. Fiona Wright is an award-winning, board-certified cosmetic physician with decades of experience in medical aesthetics and skin rejuvenation. She is renowned for her patient-focused care and minimally invasive techniques, ensuring that her treatments are safe, effective, and customized. Winter blues? We have some tips to help you protect your skin! 11 Jan 2025, 10:00 am
Winter poses its own issues with caring for your skin. The dry, cold air leaves your skin feeling parched while indoor heat depletes moisture to cause more dryness. It’s no wonder our skin often ends up dry flaky and itchy. And once dryness starts, skin can more easily crack and bleed!
Caring for skin during winter isn’t difficult; it takes just a little extra time and effort because the conditions are rather extreme for our poor skin. Luckily, there are many ways to combat the causes of dry winter skin by making some easy swaps to your skincare routine to soothe your skin and leave you feeling soft and moisturized all winter long.
1. Switch Your Cleanser
During winter’s dry months, it’s a good idea to trade in your current cleanser for a more moisturizing hydrating cleanser, particularly if your usual choice contains drying ingredients like glycolic or salicylic acid. Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils, such as our Fortified Cleansing Mousse. You may also need to cleanse less frequently to help your skin retain moisture. If your skin tends to feel tight or dry right after washing it during the winter months, that’s a sign that it’s naturally on the dry side. And, therefore, you don’t need to fully wash it again that day.
2. Moisturize Regularly
You should already be using a moisturizer every day as part of your usual skin-care routine. But moisturizing is especially important in the winter because cold weather and moving between temperatures can cause your skin to dry out, so you definitely don’t want to be slacking! Switch to a thicker, richer moisturizer during winter, such as our Epiderme Nutri-Cream. You could also add in a mask treatment like the Azulene Recovery Mask once a week for additional support.
3. Exfoliate Gently
Dry skin builds up and when you moisturize, you are re-hydrating dead skin. Exfoliating eliminates the dead skin cells, allowing better absorption of moisturizers. Switching to a gentle exfoliator like our Fruit Enzyme Exfoliating Cleanser will buff away the dead skin cells without irritating or further drying out your skin. This will improve your skin’s absorption of moisturizers, keeping it hydrated and comfortable. But keep in mind that going overboard with exfoliation can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated instead. It’s a good idea to limit exfoliation to once or twice a week to avoid overdoing it.
4. Hydration is Key
While taking care of your skin on the outside is important, don’t forget the crucial step of winter skincare: hydrate from within. Drinking plenty of water helps your skin recover lost moisture, keeping it hydrated and supple. Herbal teas and warm water with lemon can help contribute to your daily fluid intake. You should also include hydrating foods in your diet, such as fruits and vegetables with high water content like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, and leafy greens. One thing you should keep in mind is that drinking alcohol can dehydrate you. So make sure to limit these beverages during holiday parties and hydrate well with water before you celebrate.
5. Avoid Long Baths and Showers
While winter’s cold months makes us want to take long, hot showers and baths, they can further dehydrate your skin. Since hot water strips natural oils and causes skin to lose moisture, try to dial down the heat so you’re less prone to damaging your skin. Limit showers to 15 minutes with lukewarm water to help protect your skin. And when you get out of the shower or bath, that is the perfect time to moisturize! Pat (don’t rub) your skin dry and apply moisturizer and body lotion while it’s still damp. This helps your skin absorb the lotion and locks in the hydration.
6. Add Moisture to Your Home
Dry, hot air from indoor heating can be particularly intense on your skin. To help combat this, invest in at least one good humidifier. They increase the amount of moisture in the air in your home, letting your skin absorb a bit more moisture to help keep it from drying out. It’s also a good idea to use a humidifier in your bedroom at night while you sleep. This will keep you from waking up in the morning with parched, dry, tight skin. As a bonus, your house plants will also love it!
7. Protect Your Skin Outdoors
We might not see the sun as often during winter, but UV rays can still cause damage to your skin, even through the clouds. So when heading outdoors, make sure to cover up with scarves, gloves, and hats to protect your skin from cold winds and low temperatures. This not only prevents skin damage but also helps retain moisture. And don’t forget sunscreen! Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at an SPF of 35 or above, like our Green Tea Fortified Sunscreen, on exposed areas, especially when participating in outdoor activities like skiing or snowboarding. Reapply sunscreen every two hours if you’re spending an extended period outside.
8. Don’t Forget the Lips
Your lips could also use extra attention during the winter. Keep dry lips from getting chapped and sunburned during winter fun by using a hydrating lip balm with SPF every morning and throughout the day to seal in moisture. Avoid anything with camphor or menthol. While the tingle they cause can feel nice in the short term, they can increase dehydration down the line. Instead, look for ingredients that hydrate, moisturize and protect, such as glycerin, shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil.
9. Watch Out for Irritating Skincare Ingredients
Be on the lookout for potentially irritating ingredients such as retinoids, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C. While they do help your skin, during the winter they can cause irritation in large doses. You may need to dial back on the strength of these ingredients to be able to use them through winter without causing excess irritation. If you have questions one which ones to adjust, give us a call. Our staff can analyze your skin and guide you to the right skincare choices for the winter!

The Dos and Don’ts of Injectables Before Holiday Events 15 Dec 2024, 12:00 pm
Injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers are excellent options for enhancing your look before the season’s festivities. However, timing and preparation are key to achieving the best results. Follow these dos and don’ts to ensure you’re ready for every holiday event.
Skin MD and Beyond, located in Plano, TX, is a premier dermatology and skin rejuvenation center offering state-of-the-art facial and body aesthetic services. Under the leadership of Dr. Fiona Wright, the practice emphasizes patient comfort and has received national awards for hospitality and patient service.
Do: Plan Ahead
Injectables take time to show optimal results. BOTOX typically requires at least three days to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines, while fillers may cause temporary swelling or bruising. Schedule your treatment at least a week or two before your event to allow for any adjustments or healing.
Do: Choose an Experienced Injector
The holidays are not the time for experimentation. Select a board-certified provider with a strong reputation for natural-looking results. An experienced injector will tailor treatments to enhance your features without going overboard.
Do: Pair Injectables with Skincare
Complement your injectables with a glowing complexion. Consider combining treatments with a hydrating facial or medical-grade skincare to boost your overall look.
Do: Follow Post-Treatment Instructions
After your appointment, follow your injector’s aftercare instructions. Avoid heavy exercise and excessive sun exposure for 24-48 hours to minimize bruising and swelling. These small steps can make a big difference in your results.
Don’t: Drink Right Before or After Treatment
Don’t drink alcohol 24 hours before and after your appointment. While it may be tempting to sip champagne at a holiday party, waiting until your injectables have settled ensures better healing and results.
Don’t: Overdo It
More is not always better. Subtle enhancements are ideal for looking refreshed, not drastically different. Avoid trying too many new treatments at once, especially if you’re unfamiliar with how they’ll affect your appearance.
Get The Holiday Glow You Want with Injectables in Plano, TX
By following these dos and don’ts, you’ll enjoy the holiday season looking and feeling your best. Ready to get started? Call us at 972-608-0808 today to book your injectable consultation so you’re ready for the fun and merriment!
