Paul Smith Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 26 Apr 2020, 11:14 am

Paul Smith brings back the 70s era of optimism and happiness with modernized looks for the flaming season. While poppy colors are used they remain elegant and well-tailored, showcasing what Paul Smith does best.

“The collection’s colours nod to a Pop Art palette building from pastels of dusty pink and caramel to electric hues of strong yellow and blue. A screen print floral is filled with the DIY attitude so common amongst the people Paul encountered on his Seventies trips. Flashes of a graphic rabbit are a take on Pop Artists’ re-appropriation of iconic brand logos. Famed for his love of rabbits Paul re-appropriates his own icon in Pop Art style.”

Loewe Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 26 Apr 2020, 10:58 am

Loewe's secret recipe is that it always finds the perfect balance between the refined reminiscence of Spanish culture and symbolism. The minimalism matched with colors and premium leatherwork and knitting is what you can expect in a very fashion forward collection.

"Long and pure, the silhouette revolves around harmonious ensembles of texture and line disrupted, at times, by the tension of new volumes... Expanding on the season’s nomadic mood, thatched moccasins, suede link sandals and boat shoes evoke outdoor summer pursuits, as lace-up boots in espadrille stripes channel LOEWE’s Spanish roots."

Louis Vuitton Men’s Spring-Summer 2020 26 Apr 2020, 10:07 am

Flowers, flowers and more flowers is what you will see all around the Louis Vuitton stores in Spring/Summer 2020. As contrasting to a menswear collection as it might first seem, their bouquet of innovative designs will surely be on many people's wishlists.

“Picture a garden filled with just one type of flower, a sunrise without sunshine, or a skyline suddenly missing its age-old spire. Familiarity can programme the mind to take the most epic things for granted. For the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2020 collection,
Men’s Artistic Director Virgil Abloh lionises the instinctive, the habitual and the natural. Flowers, a staple element in fashion, are observed as a naturally occurring metaphor for diversity. In bloom, they are as beautiful on a micro level as they are on a macro level."

Celebrating Three Years of 209 Mare 23 Sep 2019, 10:48 am

The Monegasque luxury beachwear label, which can be seen all over resorts in and around of Monaco - think of Nikki Beach Monte Carlo and Saint Tropez to name a few - is now celebrating its third year anniversary!

I was so impressed by the innovative brand, technically and aesthetically when I first wrote about it during its launch here. But what makes me more proud is that, in a world of global conglomerates that are monopolizing the fashion market, this family-owned brand is going stronger than ever.

Besides yours truly, 209 Mare has gained global media attention by publications such as GQ, Cosmopolitan, Bloomberg, Women's Wear Daily and more. Commercially, clients from more than 100 countries have purchased it. 209 Mare was just showcased at Miami Swim Week and participated in the hub of creativity, the New York Fashion Week. Its appeal has attracted the entrepreneur, Mohamed Hadid (that’s right the father of Gigi and Bella), to partner up with his own brand Hadid Eyewear.

All the hype stems from its one-of-a-kind philosophy of turning beachwear to an ensemble that is wearable outside the premises of the beach. The brother-founders, Federico and Gabriel Uribe, are the designers of the infamous Beach Blazer and Towel Tuxedo (original concept right?). All premium fabrics are imported from Italy and France, with a special twist, most are either up-cycled or organic.

Federico Uribe, the Creative Director, commented: “I wanted to bring glamour back to the beach, however glamour tends to be uncomfortable and stuffy, so we took an approach of making it elegant yet playful, tailored yet comfortable and above all- sustainable.”

And while the brand was initially for men, it has introduced pieces for women to enlarge its offering of jackets, swim shorts, t-shirts, hoodies, and accessories.

September 20th (i.e. 20/9), is not only a celebration of the brand’s birth, but also the anniversary of one of its founder’s rebirth, who went through a near-death accident on this date. An unforgettable day by all means!

209 Mare is indeed a one of a kind start-up, heading from Monaco to the world! So go ahead and shop you favorite look here.

BROADWATER: Your must-see yacht during Monaco Yacht Show 2019 20 Sep 2019, 9:21 am

The highly anticipated event by international yacht enthusiasts is just a few days away! The yearly Monaco Yacht Show will take place from 25-28 September 2019 at the principality’s main harbour, the Port Hercules.

The latest masterpieces of boats and yachts await you, with one-star model, in particular, BROADWATER presented by Worth Avenue Yachts.

After a voyage through the Caribbean, BROADWATER is on the market and up for sale for the keen yacht connoisseur. Aesthetically, she is a showstopper with her luxurious feel and spacious interior. The leading shipbuilder Feadship crafted its solid work in the year 2000.

17 years after her construction, BROADWATER was fully renovated in 2017. Her newly enhanced look was hence awarded the Best Refit prize presented during the World Superyacht Awards in 2018.

The 50-metre pedigree yacht houses six voluminous cabins coupled with an ample lounge and deck space. BROADWATER can easily host 14 passengers including four crewmembers. After her re-looking project, the bridge deck offers a unique area for memorable dinners and celebrations. The modern beach club and swimming platform is ideal for a rest after a nice swim out in the water. Her range of 5,000 miles coupled with a top speed of 14 knots ensures you are able to navigate through secret spots and hidden gems. BROADWATER’s 7’10’’ draft allows her to anchor in places not usually possible for a yacht of her size. Comfort is a key and is guaranteed with its zero speed stabilizers, that are indifferent to sea conditions and weather changes.

Michael Mahan, central listing agent and managing partner of Worth Avenue Yachts said: “BROADWATER is found in perfect condition and is kept to the highest of yachting standards... BROADWATER is a vessel offering the best of all worlds: pedigree, stability, and shoal draft.”

Located in France and registered at the Cayman Islands, BROADWATER is listed at a price of US$22,900,000. Available as of September 25-28, 2019 at the Monaco Yacht Show, you can book a personal appointment via email at Michael@WorthAvenueYachts.com or telephone on +37799907463.

Nordic Angels’ Spring/Summer 2019 Collection Of Bridal Gowns 5 Feb 2019, 10:04 am

The south of France had its fair share of fashion this season. The Aston La Scala Hotel in Nice hosted designer and founder of the Nordic Angels bridal wear brand Marketa Häkkinen’s collection for Spring/Summer 2019.

Unlike her previous collection that was very Boho-chic inspired, Häkkinen’s new collection had a much more romantic feeling. She presented fifteen uniquely designed gowns and used high quality fabrics like lace, tulle and organza. One signature dress was made of satin with pearl centered flowers and that left people in total awe.

While expressing the vision behind her brand, Marketa said “This collection is me; it blends fairytale elements and romance. While many brides seek three dresses - for the church wedding, the registry office and the evening - Nordic Angels gowns are designed to be worn for all three key moments. My brides like to be sexy but comfortable enough to move around… The idea is to give them the possibility to adapt the gowns they choose, to add length or change the color.”

A 2 in 1 Celebration: Nordic Angels’ New Showroom

The Nordic Angels brand didn’t only celebrate the launch of a new collection but the opening of the brand’s salon and showroom at Mandelieu-La-Napoule on the French Riviera. The place to be for clients who wish to have a custom made dress in less than 8 weeks. The made-to-measure service comes with an attractive price as well; the brand’s gowns from the latest collection are priced from €1,000 to €2,500, a clear strategy to have an inclusive clientele who seeks good quality and beautiful designs.

Designer Marketa Häkkinen is a former professional dancer of Czech origin. She first established the fashion house designing cocktail dresses but decided to shift towards bridal dresses after creating her very own wedding dress when she married Mika Häkkinen, the Finnish Formula 1 driver (the source of “Nordic”in the brand’s name)

"Behind every fairy tale is a story of love. The new collection from Nordic Angels focuses on the romanticism of love that lies behind every ‘once upon a time’.”

Monaco’s Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival is based around formal dinner galas with performances by the world’s finest singers. In the past, Lenny Kravitz and Lady Gaga have taken to the stage, but this year Rita Ora is among the headline acts, performing on Tuesday 7th August. She is joined by Seal, Tom Jones, Il Volo, Santana and Grace Jones. The Salle des Etoiles and the Opéra Garnier Monte-Carlo are the perfect venues for these high-profile concerts, and they are easy to reach from Nice Côte d’Azur airport with a helicopter transfer from Nice to Monaco in just seven minutes!

Nice Jazz Festival, 17th to 21st July, Nice

Nice Jazz Festival has hosted an illustrious list of musicians since it was established in 1948. This year, the open-air music festival held in the heart of Nice celebrates its 70th anniversary and will welcome Gregory Porter, Massive Attack, Jack Johnson, Rag ‘N’ Bone Man and Camille Bertault among a long list of highly renowned artists. A mix of traditional jazz and modern funk will fill Place Massena.

In undoubtedly the biggest concert of the summer, music’s power-duo Beyoncé and Jay-Z are bringing some megastar glamour to Nice. Frequent visitors to the area on a superyacht, this time they will step onto dry land and perform at Nice’s Allianz Riviera stadium as part of their ‘On the Run II’ tour.

Jazz à Juan, 12th to 22nd July, Juan-les-Pins

The Cote d’Azur positively reverberates with the smooth sounds of jazz this summer. Besides making a beeline for Nice, jazz fans make sure they stop by Juan-les-Pins every July when Jazz à Juan takes place. The festival is one of the oldest jazz events in Europe and has been known to launch the international careers of its performers. Famous names such as Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Carlos Santana have all graced the beachfront stage at Jazz a Juan. It offers a packed program of every kind of jazz and this year’s diverse line-up includes Norah Jones, Lenny Kravitz and Carla Bruni.

Festival Les Grimaldines, 17th July to 7th August, Gulf of Saint-Tropez

Menton Music Festival, 28th July to 11th August, Menton
The Menton Music Festival is another well-established event on the French Riviera. This year it celebrates its 69th edition and is one of the oldest and most important classical festivals in Europe. Concerts are scheduled to take place at Parvis de la Basilique Saint-Michel Archange and other venues around the pretty seaside town. This year, the organizers have arranged for a violin masterclass taught by three outstanding and acclaimed violinists: Sayaka Shoji, Boris Garlitsky and Liana Tretiakova. The program has diversified so that relatively unknown classical musicians get the chance to shine along with big-name artists. Subsequently, Menton Music Festival will appeal to both long-time fans of classical music and newcomers.

Longines Show Jumping Tour in Monaco: What to expect 18 Jun 2018, 8:02 am

Monte-Carlo’s spectacular Port d’Hercules will play host to the 2018 Longines Global Champions Tour season later this month.

From the 28th-30th June Monaco will be filled to the brim with show jumping enthusiasts, all there to enjoy a three-day spectacle filled with explosive performances from the best international riders and horses.

But what exactly is all the fuss about, what should you expect, and where should you stay? Below find out everything you need to know about the Monaco leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour.

What is the Longines Global Champions Tour?
The Longines Tour runs over 17 exciting global destinations and, for spectators, is a unique opportunity to watch elite equestrian jumping.

It brings together the world’s top show jumpers - including Olympic, World and Continental Champions - to compete for the Tour-winning title of Champion of Champions (as well as the large pot of prize money!) The stakes are high and the contest is fierce.

Founded by former Olympic showjumper Jan Tops, Longines is a favourite among celebrity equestrian enthusiasts such as Bruce Springsteen and Bill Gates, with excellent VIP hospitality available across all destinations.

What are the expected highlights?
The Monaco leg of the Tour always holds high prestige, positioned within the iconic former Formula 1 race track and watched over by the extraordinary superyachts that line Port d’Hercules.

The start of June saw the Tour hit Cannes, where Peder Fredricson of Sweden surprised us all by beating world number one-ranked Harrie Smolders to victory. Meanwhile, 2011/2012 Champions tour winner Edwina Tops-Alexander of Australia finished down the field in 19th place. With so many shocking lead-switches in occurrence, we expect Monaco will see the favourites attempt to up their game in order to take back the throne.

The action heads to Cascals in Portugal from the 14-16th June before reaching Monaco at the end of the month.

Where are the best places to stay during the Monaco jumping contest?
One thing Monte-Carlo is not short of is luxurious places to stay. From glamourous hotels to private villas close to Monaco, there is something to suit every requirement. For those who want to stay in the heart of the equestrian action try the Fairmont Monte Carlo, a prestigious four-star resort offering rooftop views over the principality, or the Hotel de Paris, a so-called ‘temple of gastronomy’ with its 3-Michelin-star Le Louis XV restaurant.

For those who prefer a slightly more secluded spot, the best place to stay during Monte-Carlo’s jumping competition is a villa. This is also a more ideal option for large groups, as rentals can range from 3-12+ bedrooms, and tend to include a private pool and other amenities as a bonus. Stay only a short drive away from excitement of the Champions Tour, whilst enjoying peace and quiet at your leisure.

However you choose to experience it, we hope you have a blast! We can’t wait to see what the 2018 Longines Global Champions Tour in Monaco has in store.

Monte-Carlo Fashion Week: Meaningful Fashion 4 Jun 2018, 7:53 am

In spring, the glamorous Principality of Monaco hosted the Monte-Carlo Fashion Week in its sixth edition from May 16 to the 20, 2018.

A gala dinner and awards ceremony was held at the Yacht Club of Monaco which launched the event and rewarded leading figures and institutions in their respective industries including: Businessman Flavio Briatore, Founder of the Fashion Film Festival Milano Constanza Cavalli Etro, Photographer German Larkin, Italian brand Maison Etro and the Monégasque brand Banana Moon, Educational institution Istituto Marangoni, and Indian-International designer Rahul Mishra, who later inaugurated the catwalk with his Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

Acknowledging the importance of global fashion business, round table discussions and presentations were held at the Café de Paris with experts sharing their know-how on market trends and professional advice in the industry. Sustainable fashion and responsible luxury was a topic that we particularly enjoyed.

The next days were full of fashion collections of designers from all around the world reflecting the international identity of Monaco and the contemporary fashion industry. More than 30 designers from 10 countries showcased their works to a crowd of elite clients, global media and fashion lovers.

Clothes and accessories celebrated the individuality of artists and were selected to satisfy the diverse styles of women of today. From the ready-to-wear and capsule to resort and beachwear collections, it was a tour around the world under one roof. All the pieces fitted the values of this year’s edition: Young, Talented, International, Emerging, Sustainable, Innovative, and Glamorous.

A highlight of the show was the collection of Federica Nardoni Spinetta, President and Founder of the Chambre Monegasque de la Mode and Designer of Beach & Cashmere Monaco. She used her platform to send out a significant message: Save The Ocean. And it was the right place to do so in Monaco, a country renowned for marine protection, to raise awareness to an environmental crisis. “We love our ocean and we have to save it from pollution,” commented Federica.

About MCFW:

My Weekend at Park Hotel & Spa Katharina in Badenweiler, Germany 23 Apr 2018, 8:16 am

Many tourists (including myself) who think of Germany will often not associate the western-European country with the Roman civilization.

Yet the German city of Badenweiler remains an evidence of a common link with the empire. Not only because of its ruins that are present to this date, but also because of what the city is most known for, its warm mineral springs. The resort’s thermal water brings Mediterranean vibes to the heart of the infamous black forest.

Badenweiler is known to be sunny throughout the year, and is only 30 minutes away from Switzerland (Basel) and France (Mulhouse), which makes it ideal for a weekend getaway.

To discover the relaxing town, I chose a hotel that reflected the ambience of Badenweiler, the Park Hotel & Spa Katharina. Located in the city center, the hotel offers premium amenities and services that made my stay as pleasant as can be!

 A Room With A View
The hotel’s comfortable and zen rooms are surrounded by natural scenery of trees, mountains and enchanting sounds of water pouring from the nearby Spa Park. I enjoyed opening the window early in the morning to listen to nature’s music orchestrated by the German countryside.

Spa Time
When in Badenweiler, the first thing that I wanted to do was Spa. I personally, enjoyed the sauna, hammam and the indoor warm swimming pool open till the late evening. Which meant that I didn’t have to rush after my long day of travel and outdoor activities. You can also book beauty treatments downstairs at the hotel.

Fine Dining
The hotel’s restaurant is dedicated to the hotel’s guests and very poplar among the local residents (you will see many cars parked outside on a Saturday night). I made sure to book a table and enjoyed a good yummy meal. Other resting areas are the hotel’s bar facing the green mountains, and the restaurant’s terrace for a cold drink and a good dose of fresh air.

 Visit the Roman Bath Ruins
Just a few steps away from Park Hotel & Spa Katharina are the ruins of Badenweiler’s Roman history. Discovered in the 1820s, the ruins are considered to be one of the best-preserved roman baths. Historians believe that it has witnessed romantic moments due to the “si me amas” (if you only loved me) phrase that was found on an antique garment.

Climb up Castle Baden
A beautiful walk up to the enchanting castle filled my heart with the purest form of oxygen (and made me burn some extra calories). At its peak is a panoramic view of the region’s gem, the black forest. The restored castle was built at the beginning of the 12th century and was owned by various noblemen including Henry the Lion.

So if you are seeking a destination to unplug your daily worries, reconnect with nature, and focus on your body and soul’s well being then Park Hotel & Spa Katharina and the city of Badenweiler are your kind of place!

Book yourself a weekend (or more) at the hotel here, and take a look at the city’s tourist office here.

Looking for a unique vacation? Luxury travel doesn’t have to be in the Caribbean at another beach resort or in Europe wandering the same cobblestone streets. You need something unique, and perfect for you. Why not head to Asia?

From north to south, east to west, there are cities and places calling your name, some that you may not have even considered for your next vacation. Check out 5 hidden gems of Asia and get to these hotspots before all the crowds of tourists.

Da Lat, Vietnam
This gorgeous southern Vietnamese city is perfect for a quiet, yet beautiful vacation to Southeast Asia. Dalat is nicknamed the “Little Paris” of Vietnam, and is known for the natural beauty all around the city limits. Take the cable cars up to see Truc Lam Pagoda, a tiered lakeside temple just outside the city limits. Or explore the Pongour Waterfall, only 40 kilometers from Dalat’s center. Relax in one of Dalat’s dozens of quaint coffee shops, specializing in local brews, or spend a peaceful day wandering the paths of the flower garden in the city center.

Vientiane, Laos
The Laos capital city will be perfect for your next vacay. Vientiane is far quieter than some of the other major cities of the region, giving you more peace and quiet during your days spent there. Check out Pha That Luang, a Buddhist temple built in the third century that is now a national symbol of Laos. Didn’t get your fill of spirituality? Check out Xieng Khuan, otherwise known as the Buddha Park. The park is filled with over 200 Buddha and Hindu statues built in the 1950s. Vientiane’s Mekong Riverside Park is your go-to destination for dinner, drinks, and a nice sunset over the water.

Lake Toba, Sumatra, Indonesia
Relax on the shores of Lake Toba, in Sumatra. Sumatra is the world’s sixth largest island, yet when tourists visit Indonesia, they somehow miss it, meaning you’ll get more privacy here. Formed by volcanic eruptions, Lake Toba sits at Sumatra’s northern end, near the city of Pematangsiantar. Relax in front of the lake’s calm, deep blue waters and sit for a picnic or hike up high to the edge of a nearby cliff where you can find local restaurants and coffee shops where you can eat or drink while you enjoy the views of the lake below. Or, you can explore the island that sits in the lake’s center. The island is roughly the size of all of Singapore.

Takayama, Japan
Sure, you could go to Tokyo or Osaka, or you could experience sleepy, traditional Japan in Takayama. Takayama sits high up in the Japanese Alps in Gifu Prefecture. Wander through the streets and enjoy the authentic food: buckwheat noodles, miso soup, and Hida beef, then finish your meal with a drink at a local sake brewery. Head to the Festival Float Exhibition Hall to learn about Takayama’s annual Takayama Festival and to see the intricate floats first hand. Or wake up early for the farmer’s market along the Miyagawa River. Stroll through the stalls selling fresh-cooked food and colorful artisan crafts.

Busan, South Korea
You’ve heard of Seoul, maybe you’ve even had friends travel there, but what about Busan? This coastal South Korean city has miles of white sand beach and calm surf for you to enjoy in a unique beach trip. Busan is filled with excellent hotels, so relax in a luxury spot with views of the blue waters or of the city around you. When you’re done with the beach, Busan has a bustling city life. Check out the Haedong Yonggung Temple, built in the Goryeo dynasty, around 918 A.D. For history buffs, check out the Busan Museum, chronicling Korean history all the way back to the prehistoric era. Looking for souvenirs of your trip? Shopping in Busan is said to be some of the best shopping you’ll find in the region.

My Weekend at Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa, Saint-Jean-de-Luz 1 Feb 2018, 9:05 am

I was extremely happy when I found out about a very beautiful five-star hotel in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, which is not always the case in small cities.

After a picturesque 10-minute walk from the train station and city center, I reached a peachy colored building situated right on the promenade of the Grande Plage of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. It somehow reminded me of Monaco’s villa near the Prince's Palace.

Greeted by a smiling concierge, I felt like I was home. Probably because the recently renovated Luz Grand Hotel is decorated following an Art-Déco style (just like mine), and has been closely tied to the legacy of the city across many decades. Ever since Saint-Jean-de-Luz has become renowned for sea bathing on the Basque coast and the destination for artists and members of high society.

A very luminous space, with a touch of elegance, was what I saw from the entrance up until my room, and throughout the entire hotel.

So here is a resume of my weekend activities at the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

Enjoy a Room with a View
Many hotels do offer rooms with a sea-view, but my deluxe room was like no other. Not only do you get to see the Grande Plage from its beginning to the end from the room’s balcony, but from your very own bed as well. So I decided to lie in, relax and just enjoy the view after my voyage.

Being a fan of Murano crystals, I was delighted by the chandeliers that are made from the precious glass. The neutral and calm colors that are spread around the room add to the whole ambience of peacefulness.

I was told that bigger suites are available for families, and special animations are organized for children as well. They include indoor and outdoor activities, meals and spa treatments (you know, children deserve to be pampered too!).

Loreamar Thalasso & Spa Time
And when at the Grand Hotel, I was definitely going to visit its Loreamar Thalasso & Spa which overlooks the Atlantic. The spa offers so many treatments and packages which was quite a challenge for me to choose from. Every offering is catered around the benefits of seawater. Treatments are personalized for you, whether you intend to stay for a short or long period of time. You can ask for the advice of medical experts and staff, who are always curious to know more about your special needs. A three-day or five-day cure could help in distressing and reshaping your body through food, water and all forms of detox therapies.

The hotel advised me to start off with the wellness massage, a very soothing experience before the launch of a wellness program. And it was indeed! I also took a dip in the warm indoor seawater swimming pool heated at a 31 degrees Celsius.

Dine & Wine
Back in the lobby, the British-styled Le Clipper bar is a cosy environment to start an afternoon break, or for a pre-dinner drink (including delicious detoxifying cocktails). The bar is situated right next to the L’Océan restaurant.

The city’s infamous L’Océan restaurant is awarded a one Michelin star, and is headed by the French chef Christophe Grosjean. On its menu, you will get to order from a selection of fresh fish and an assortment of locally produced fruits and vegetables cooked a la Basquaise. Every dish combines lightness and generosity, and that’s rare to find at an acclaimed restaurant.

And just like the hotel, the restaurant and its terrace face the ocean, fusing the delicious food and experience in a unique space. When I first arrived many clients were sitting on the restaurants terrace as they sipped their cocktails and watched the sunset. I unfortunately was too busy discovering the interior.

Direction the Grande Plage
I was surely tempted to have a live experience with the Atlantic, which is located a few meters away. Many of the hotel’s guests were walking barefoot in their bathrobes on the sand, others were swimming or participating in a water sports activity. I just wanted to sit on the sand and enjoy the view.

And don’t forget to visit Saint-Jean-De-Lutz’s city’s center and all its historical monuments. (P.S.: to read more about my weekend visit at Saint-Jean-De-Lutz click here)

The luxurious and sophisticated Grand Hôtel of Saint-Jean-de-Luz remains subtle and offers a soothing premium experience allowing visitors to select their preferences, and enjoy their stay, the way they want it to be.

It’s an ultimate destination of premium and serene luxury and represents the intimate ties of the city’s relationship with the water of the Atlantic. A place that makes you want to come back.

My Weekend In Saint Jean de Luz, France 1 Feb 2018, 8:21 am

After a weekend at the Bassin d'Arcachon, I really felt like there were more things to discover on the coast of the Atlantic.

So I headed further down the Southwest coast of France towards the unique Le Pays Basque (The Basque Country), a land shared between France and Spain and is an intersection of the Pyrénées mountains and the Atlantic. It’s a very culturally rich country because of the pride of its locals in their unique history, language and traditions.

My first stop in the Basque Country was at the city of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Saint-Jean-de-Luz, which is known to be as the “royal city” ever since it witnessed the marriage of non other than the King of France, Louis XIV.

Accessed by a five-hour direct train ride from Paris, or a flight to the nearby airport of Biarritz, traveling to Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a voyage through nature and folklore.

And so, as always, I tried to find out the must dos and visits at the city of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

Walk around the City Center and the Fishermen’s Port
A very beautiful (and walkable) route begins at the city center. Starting off with the Saint Jean Baptiste church, the setting for Louis XIV King of France, and Maria Theresa the Spanish infant’s marriage in 1660. A royal wedding that put an end to the war between both countries. The Saint Jean Baptiste is a church with a Latin ambience and it incorporates three stories of wooden galleries that were once reserved for men only. In fact, Basque traditions empower women, as they are the ones responsible to preserve their family and ancestors’ legacy. Consequently they were seated at the ground floor of the church.

My next stop was the morning market hall. You know I always want to feel like a local, so I visited the food venue of fresh fish, meats, fruits and vegetables right from the farmers. I also passed by nearby monuments like the Maison Louis XIV (Lohobiague-Enea), where the king resided during his stay at Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the town hall, and the Maison de l’Enfante (Joanoenia). This maison is a venetian-style building which hosted both Queen Anne of Austira followed by the bride-to-be, the future queen of France, Maria Theresa.

But I have to stay I also passed by every type of food store, from patisseries, boulangeries, and other types of savory stores, each presenting traditional Basque food like the infamous (and delicious) Basque cake and all sorts of local spicy meats.

Besides gastronomy, Saint-Jean-de-Luz sells a wide range of local and handmade products including fine leather goods, textiles with traditional colorful patterns, and the very fashionable French espadrilles. Keep in mind that the origin of what is known as the French espadrilles is actually The Basque Country. So dedicate some time for shopping as well.

My final stop with the guide was at the fishermen’s port, once known to host the first whalers in Europe since the 14th century, and the reason behind the development of a very prospers whaling industry. While walking around it, don’t miss out on two Art-Déco styled Phares (lighthouses) designed by André Pavlovsky. One is in red and one is in green.

Head to the Grande Plage
I was also there for the sea and plage of course! A very picturesque view of houses of the Belle Époque architecture welcomes you before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. I have to say, I was quite surprised when I saw people swimming early in the morning on a winter day… Apparently it’s part of the local customs! As I walked on the promenade, I kept my eyes on the Atlantic on my right, and the top of the Pyrénées mountains on my left. It is simply the best of both worlds!

And if you are into water sports then you just happen to be in the right place. Surfing is the most practiced sports, so you can either hit the waves or take a beginner’s surfing course. You may also choose from other water activates like jet skiing, paddling, sailing or cruising along the Basque coast.

Visit some nearby villages
Just across the bridge from Saint-Jean-de-Luz is the colorful city of Ciboure. Upon my arrival, I was drawn by a fortress: the Fort de Socoa. Once there I took a closer look at the powerful waves, and the naturally sea-made curvatures on its bay. Talk about a natural sculpture!

Other nearby villages, accessible by car, include the village of Guéthary. I enjoyed visiting its isolated, calm and intact beaches, also known to be a surfer’s paradise. I then visited Ainhoa, simply because it is listed among the most beautiful villages of France, and to Ascain to watch the traditional Pelota (a set of sports played with a ball using a hand, a racket, a wooden bat or a basket against a wall).

Spoil yourself at the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa
A luxuriously, Zen and tranquil hotel, the historical Luz Grand Hôtel is the ideal place for a break away from the busy city life. Located right on the Grande Plage, the five-star Hôtel Thalasso & Spa of Saint-Jean-de-Luz offers 52 comfortable and spacious rooms decorated with a modern style. Its restaurant, L’Océan, is awarded a one Michelin star. The meals are just out of this world. Not to forget its one and only, Loreamar Thalasso & Spa, with various wellness treatments and cures and a direct access to the beach. (P.S.: read more about my fabulous stay at the Grand Hôtel Thalasso & Spa of St-Jean-de-Luz here)

I truly think that the rare beauty of France lies in the fact that each part of the nation has a different vibe and is a melting pot of influences from its neighboring countries. When it comes to Saint-Jean-de-Luz, its mild climate, exceptional scenery, and rich culture is what makes it special. It is a city where there will always be something for you, no matter what kind of traveler you are.

To organize your trip and stay up-to-date with the latest events, make sure to visit Saint-Jean-de-Luz’s tourist office here, and go ahead and spoil yourself by booking a room at the Luz Grand Hôtel here.

Monaco Marketplace: Luxurious Duplex Penthouse in Larvotto 29 Jan 2018, 9:44 am

A luxurious duplex penthouse in the residential district of Larvotto in Monaco is now on sale for you!

Located on the 10th and 11th floor (just imagine its panoramic view), this renovated penthouse has just been added to the real-estate market. Its ideal location and proximity to the beach, a few steps away from the heart of Monaco’s lively restaurants, shopping and high-end venues is definitely the cherry on top!

And that is not all, its interior is equally attractive. The spacious Penthouse includes 4 bedrooms and is furnished with a contemporary style by designer Francois Marcq. The penthouse of 470 m2 includes an entrance hall, a living-dining area, an additional living room, a modern and fully equipped kitchen, a kitchenette, 3 en-suite bathrooms, 2 guest toilets, utility room, 2 cellars, and 2 parking spaces. Not to forget its terraces, one that is particularly surreal as it includes a private swimming pool overlooking the deep blue Mediterranean Sea.

The two floors are connected by a centered staircase which is a piece of art on its own, illuminated naturally by the windows stretching from the floor to the ceiling throughout the living space.

Its modern vibes and furniture include the original works of numerous artists like; Abbas Akhavan, Adam Dix, Amir Nikravan, Andrew Palmer, Anselm Reyle, Armen Eloyan, Chantal Joffe, Josh Smith, Juan Araujo, Ned Vena, Raffi Kalenderian, Ryan Maclaughlin, Serban Savu, Vicky Wright, and Yoan Capote.

It’s simply a breathtaking space of two-floors suitable for a family residence. And as Ander Mugica Del Campo, the Assistant Project Manager of the Larvotto Penthouse, said: “From the first visit to the apartment, we realised the property had enormous potential. Having the opportunity to completely transform a space to revive its splendour is a challenge that requires effort, time and savoir-faire, but the end result has made it an extremely gratifying experience. We figured the location would be very attractive to a wide range of potential clients; it’s a calm residential area, within walking distance to Monte Carlo. The beach is in front of the building and there are many amenities around it, including shops, gyms, and hotels. It was clear that the project deserved the best professional craftsmen, the best technical solutions, and the best materials. With a vision in mind, we recruited some of the best local companies and some of the finest artisans and suppliers from Italy, Paris, and London who gave us bespoke solutions for every detail of the apartment. This was a very ambitious and complex renovation.”

This would definitely be a dreamy apartment for living, but for potential investors out there, do keep in mind that in the last 10 years, Monaco’s average property price has increased by 180% in a marketplace with an annual price growth of 10.9%. Not surprising, as land in Monaco has become very scarce and is extremely in demand.

If you are interested in knowing more about this piece of paradise, don’t hesitate to visit larvottopenthouse.com

Monaco is known for having one of the hottest real-estate markets in the world. And finding a property overlooking the glamorous Casino Square, Rocky Mountains, or the breath taking Port Hercule and Mediterranean Sea is therefore a real challenge which requires a professional service.

Miells & Partners a leading real estate agency in the principality can offer such assistance. The agency has a collective 20 years experience, has a staff base of 20 talented employees always on the lookout for attractive rentals and properties for sale across Monaco.

Since the agency is always seeking new talents, they have recently hired Nathalie Morchio as a real-estate broker. The agency welcomes Morchio who is a born and raised resident of Monaco, and has six years experience in its market. She will invest her accumulated know-how at Miells & Partners.

Miells & Partners aims to satisfy its international clientele, and Nathalie will definitely serve a wide range of customers due to her language skills in French, English and Swedish, taking total languages spoken by the agency up to 9: Dutch, French, English, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Arabic and Swedish.

In an official statement Nathalie commented:

“We always think we’ve reached the highest level in the Monaco property market, but it’s still growing and I think it will continue in the same way. With the new land extension in Larvotto, we’ll see some new and really great additions to the market - even villas. There might be a slower period, where the market will be stable for a while but it will continue to grow as long as Monaco continues to inspire dreams, luxury, but also safety and tax benefits.”

Nathlie will start her role in the rentals department, however, her current “coup de coeur" apartment (currently on sale) is a renovated and decorated apartment at Trocadero. A spacious one-bedroom apartment with a panoramic sea view and an interior of quality design. Its location is ideal as it’s close to the Golden Square facing the sea and the beach, and is close to Boulevard des Moulins (the shopping street).

Besides its offerings of sales and rentals, Miells & Partners is active in the management of property, property maintenance services, and legal assistance.

My Weekend At Le Bassin of Arcachon 4 Dec 2017, 9:07 am

As you may know, one of the top criteria of luxury travelers is privacy and tranquility. And while many premium vacation destinations provide all the means to insure these qualities, other offer it just effortlessly. And such is the beautiful area of Le Bassin d'Arcachon in France.

After my stay in the city of Bordeaux, it took me a one-hour drive to reach the beach resort of the capital of wine. Being a Mediterranean person myself, the region’s location on the southwest coast of France was a change of scenery. Since a visit to Arcachon and its surrounding area, brought me a step closer to the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

And so, I had to bring you the must-see parts and to-do-list of Le Bassin.

Stroll around Arcachon City & Beach
The city of Arcachon is the liveliest place around the Bassin. Its downtown hosts the yummy fresh morning food market, shopping stores and is the stage for seasonal cultural and entertainment events. Arcachon is accessible on foot from the train station, and is perfect for walking or cycling along its beautiful promenade, parallel to the sandy beaches of the Bassin up until the fishermen port. The Bassin is also known to be an ideal destination for all sorts of water sports like surfing, paddling, water skiing or boat cursing.

But the most picturesque part of the city is definitely the Ville d'Hiver quarter. Its architecture is like nothing I have seen before. The streets consist of colorful villas built with English, Spanish and Oriental architectural influences that create a bouquet of houses of stone, brick and wood, each with its unique character (and original name as well). I decided to take a tour in the mini-train and visited the entire Ville d'Hiver and the Parc Mauresque located up on the hill.

Hop on a bike in Cap Ferret
Cap Ferret is a savage intact beauty with a luxurious touch, probably because of the multi-million euro villas that are spread around its land. What I really appreciated is the fact that the estates remain subtle because they are constructed to resemble the regions’ emblematic fishing cabanas.

I took a 30-minute boat ride from Arcachon City to discover Cap Ferret, which indeed is the perfect place to walk around barefoot in a relaxed attire. I was told it was the look often opted by celebrities like Marion Cotillard, Leonardo DiCaprio, Clint Eastwood and other members of European royalty.

And when in Cap Ferret, you must taste the fresh oysters from a fisherman’s shop with a glass of white wine, simply delicious! But before the culinary blast, make sure to go on a bicycle ride on Cap Ferret’s cycling routes, which goes through forests of pine trees towards the golden sandy beaches of the Atlantic.

Climb up the Dune du Pilat
If Paris has the Eiffel tower then the Bassin d'Arcachon has its Dune du Pilat. Being the highest dune in Europe, the Pilat or Pyla, is classified as a natural site and a monument of the region, which attracts more than 2 million visitors per year.

The Dune of 110 meters, stretches along three kilometers and evokes many different sensations. At a first glance I felt like I was lost in the middle of an Arabian Sahara, yet when I looked around I realized that an evergreen forest surrounded me on one side, and the roaring Atlantic Ocean on the opposite side. So prepare yourself to either climb up the dune, or take the staircase, and voila an absolutely breathtaking view will await you!

Where to Stay, Dine & Wine
The ideal location to stay around Le Bassin d'Arcachon would be in the city of Arcachon. It is central between all of the villages, and reachable via the train or Bordeaux’s airport.

While the city center doesn’t have a 5 star hotel, it does offer numerous Apartment Hotels. One of them is Appart-Hotel Le Trianon, which is a replica of a holiday apartment. I particularly enjoyed the fully equipped kitchen, my spacious room that hosts up to 6 people, and the liberty I had of going to the local market and cooking my own meals. Its ideal location right next to the casino and the beach is an added value.

As for the dinning, the area offers many premium seafood restaurants including two one-star Michelin rated restaurants. And for those who enjoy a spa and thalassotherapy treatment like myself, then booking a massage or a facial is possible at the Thalazur Arcachon.

In conclusion, if you are seeking the unforced tranquility and serenity of nature, then Le Bassin d'Arcachon is your kind of place. Going to the Bassin area is like visiting the summerhouse you have always wished to own. It is a space to disconnect from your everyday life and reconnect with inartificial beauty. So put away your mobile phones and enjoy the fresh air!

Fun (and surprising) Facts
  • Salvador Dali and Coco Chanel lived in Arcachon City for nine years
  • The previous King and Queen of Spain first met at the Ville d'Hiver of Arcachon
  • Legend has it that Arcahcon’s aquarium inspired Prince Rainier III de Monaco to build the  Musée océanographique de Monaco
  • Many of the luxurious yachts that dock at the international Port Hercule de Monaco are built at the Bassin’s city of Gujan-Mestras by Guy Couach. For instance, the super yacht Pellegrina was first tested in the Bassin

P.S. To book your trip, make sure to go through the Bassin d'Arcachon region’s website here, organize your tours with the Archon office of tourism here, and book a room with a sea view at Le Trianon hotel here.
